Dennis

I've been functioning on far too few hours sleep for the last few weeks, because I left my job, started up my own business, and my mother had a hip replacement in the middle of all that, so I've been looking after her.

I drove mum out of town for surgery and stayed for a week, visiting the hospital twice a day. No matter how fried she was on morphine and other drugs, no matter whether she'd just been woken up and was still spaced, she didn't screw up on pronouns, not once. I'd be there and she'd be ripped out of her mind and the nurse would be asking who would do something when she got home, she was so stoned she didn't know I was there and she said "my son will do that".

It just registered on me, through my lack of sleep, that that means my mother has finally internalized the change. She's no longer translating in her head, but she's actually got me in her brain as her son! That's pretty darn good, considering I've only been her son for a year and was her daughter for 43 years before that.

Dennis,

That is cool.  I know exactly what your feeling.  I remember when I went through something like that too. And yea it is like you know they see you for who you really are for the first time,, not who they had assumed you to be and in many cases needed you to be.  What a relief!

I hope your mom is doing good??  And dude get rest. I am working insane hours too, with the book out and the non profit starting up that I am finding myself drounding in. Remember balance man, because lack of sleep actually ends up hurting our ability to produce as well as we could with those few hours of rest and down time.  You'll get a pace going that works for you!  And congradulations on your business move, I read you were doing this and had ment to drop you a line and congradulate you, but I just got busy. Take it easy and take care of you so you can take good care of your mom!

Peace
Taylor

Best wishes to your mum!
Good luck on your business, and I'm glad she's finally accepted that!

Hey, Dennis;

First things first, man -- you get some sleep!  I'm talkin' a safety issue here.

Second, I liked your use of the phrase "ripped out of her mind", that language reminds me of my high school days (class of '75 :-).

Third, Way ta GO!  You have arrived, dude!

That is truly amazing, Dennis.  Congratulations to both of you.  And best wishes on her rehabilitation and on your new business.

Robyn,
seriously interested in a new hip and/or new lumbar spine.
