With her drawn-on eyebrows, heavy make-up, dangling glitzy earrings and long pink gloves, Carmen has returned to Wellington to celebrate her birthday tonight.
Carmen has advertised the party as her 73rd even though she will actually be turning 75. She said she did not feel her age so was instead going backwards. She planned to meet a few Wellington councillors for campaign advice while she is here. Carmen lives in Sydney and works as a caretaker but has fond memories of Wellington, where she ran for mayor in 1977. Her most prominent backer was Sir Robert Jones.
