Back from Corsica. We had a magic time. I went back to where I used to live between the marches and the sea. The place has changed so little, so wild with pines and eucalyptus forests to the beach with no one on it just a couple of horses. Met the new owners of the land, they let us stay for the 4 days in a little self contained chalets they have built on the beach. We went up to the snow caped mountains, the majestic forests, the mysterious laques, the deep gorges, the steep valleys, the isolated perched little villages, the dramatic calanques, the glorious beaches, the stunning waterfalls... we took it all in. Eileen fell in love with the place and the people. We went to all the haunts of my misspent youth, to Corte and my great grand mother's and grand mother's houses carved into the rock under the citadelle, to my Cousin's house in Sisco on the cap overlooking the sea and the Island of Elba, to the Castagnicia and the Balagna where I used to hunt and fish. Thanks to the locals resistance to development and the refusal of the people of any economical enticement of mass tourism the place has changed so little in 25 years. So beautiful, so proud, so wild, so clean and unspoiled. You are welcome to come and visit and stay but only by respecting what and who is there.
On our arrival back today I made a Corsican meal for my chidren with stuff we brought back. We all had a great time together, eating, drinking and reminissing.
