I have been taking hormones (progynova) alongside an atypical antipsychotic (Risperadone) and the anti-psychotic which is an SSRI has blocked the effects of the estrogen,... I took Estrogen for three months and there were absolutely no changes whatsoever, when I took estrogen last year when I wasnt taking the risperadone I had some major changes in only the first two months.....
I feel terrible, I'm so highly anxious and depressed from my gender being wrong...
Does anybody know the reasons for the SSRI causing the estrgogens to not work properly, I'm so angry about this because I am stuck on this medication, I have to take it! Its hell! I need my HRT to work properly, I cannot live with this anxiety

Has anyone else here had experiences with HRT & anti-psychotics? Did they work together? I've found absolutely no information about this on a google search.

please help!!!

Are you being prescribed hormones under a doctor's care? Are you taking an antiandrogen? Estrogen alone will have a hard time competing with the testosterone in your body.

I am currently taking anti-crazy meds (my affectionate name for them). I take cymbalta and ativan and they don't interfere with my hormones at all. They are in full swing right now and breasts are growing and my waist/hip area is finally starting to feminize.

Its Spirio  daily with Premarin 1 pill daily....
I stopped the progynova, I think I may actually be feeling something from the Premarin, but it might be placebo.... I'll keep you updated.... Im self-medding at the moment as I wait for a GIC appointment...

Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic that does things to the seratonin and dopamine receptors... Would that likely effect that affectiveness of the HRT? It seemed to when I was taking progynova last year, I am now trying with a different type of estrogen along with an anti androgen to see if that will work....
Doe anyone know why it may not work? Can I do anything about it....?

I would talk to your doctor, but as far as I know Risperidone shouldn't be affecting estrogen. Risperidone, by the way, isn't an SSRI. SSRI's are a different class of medications under anti-depressants. There are several classes of antidepressant meds, SSRI is just one of them. SSRI's shouldn't affect estrogen levels.

Interesting enough, Risperidone can cause the body to make more prolactin.
