"Thy Will Be Done: A Transsexual Woman's Journey Through Family and Faith" follows Sara Herwig, who transitioned from male to female and is seeking to "fulfill God's call."

In conveying Herwig's personal story, the documentary reveals the complex nature of the issue as faith groups, mainly the PC(USA), struggle to interpret their established policies and Scripture with regard to transsexualism.

The Christian Post article says the film is slated for a January 2010 release, but the website of film's producer suggests funding difficulties. Here are the recent news entries about the film on the production company's website:

QuoteGood news! That All May Freely Serve (TAMFS) just gave Thy Will Be Done a much needed grant! We are grateful and appreciative. Thank you TAMFS!!!!!

Am down to the wire in getting this grant proposal ready for an upcoming deadline..... for a Cambridge Arts Council grant. Keep your fingers crossed! But sad news from Chicken and Egg Pictures, they denied the project a grant.

Just got back from a great More Light Presbyterian conference in Nashville over the weekend. I showed the trailer, passed out some info and talked up the film! Lot's of interest from everyone!

Jenny Boylan, author and Colby College Professor has agreed to be an advisor for THY WILL BE DONE! She'll bring insights and wisdom to the film, and we are grateful and excited.

And if you go to the Grantmakers for Film and Electronic Media website, the financial numbers look very grim.

QuoteBudget

Raised to date: $ 21,700.00
Estimate to complete: $ 134,039.00
Total Estimated Budget: $ 155,739.00
The budget numbers above are accurate as of 10/13/2009
http://media.gfem.org/node/10752

The amount of money raised is a small fraction of the budget.  I don't know anything about the film industry, but this seems kind of ominous to me.

I hope the financial picture doesn't interfere with the release of the movie.

Edit:
The movie's Facebook page doesn't have much information, but does declare the release date to be "Spring 2010."
