Jill Wants to Marry Diane: Vote No on 1

Jill Barkley goes door to door in Portland and South Portland, Maine asking for Diane's hand in marriage. Vote No on 1

it's Maine's version of prop 8, a no on question 1 vote upholds Maine's recognition of same sex marriage while a yes vote rescinds the rights the state has already granted.

the same people behind the yes on 8 campaign are involved with question 1.

Nate Silver has an excellent blog entry on this at www.fivethirtyeight.com

I think the polling data works out to be 40 yes/60 no.

So chances are very good that the voters in Maine will back the legislatures passing of gay mariage in Maine.

The concept of going to your neighbors to ask if you can get married?  Brilliant!

And from related polling, divorce lawyers favor gay marriage by a margin of 99-1.

Brilliant, but ultimately ineffective when you are dealing with entrenched bigotry. Those people only understand violence and intimidation, so subtle jabs are lost on them.

Making divorce illegal would be a step.  The legal battle is interesting.  I could make up my own certificate of marriage.  Pass this on to the next and so on and never pay taxes.  It's brilliant but the loop hole is finding enough idiots to do it, idiots with money of course.  It's a legal notch.

Lately?  We haven't stopped since 1849.  It's a cumulative effect.

Faced with problems so overwhelming as to be catastrophic, and problems as in a whole frickin' list - who gets to call their personal love nest a 'marriage' and who does not, all being dependent on who be what when... I'm so over it.  It's like some guy who's house is on fire and his family locked inside out taking to you about what an outrage some football game was.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
