One Step SRS VS. Two Step

Hello All,

I'm new here (still can't even figure out how to modify my profile)...
I've been reading your message boards for a while now while making my final decisions about SRS and the ongoing discussions here have been very helpful.

So, I am booked for SRS with Dr. McGinn and the big day is quickly approaching.  She seems so incredible - she's got magic in her eyes. Anyway,  My question is about One Stage VS. Two Stage...

From what I understand all vaginoplasty is essentially the same no matter what doctor you use (i.e. the "first stage"/Vaginoplasty of Dr. McGinn's procedure is essentially the same as Brassard's "one stage") Am I under the wrong impression about this?

And my question is for those of you who have had SRS with Dr. McGinn or with other "Two Stage" doctors:
How did you/do you feel about the results of the initial Vaginoplasty?   Was it somewhat of a "frankenstein" vagina?

I've accepted that I may or may not need a labiaplasty following the vaginoplasty but I'm ultimately concerned with the emotional ramifications of waking up after the Vaginoplasty to find an unnatural/disappointing result, or rather to find that I still feel "incomplete".

Any words of advice/experience you have about this would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Susan's!  Please take time to introduce yourself.  You said that your date is quickly approaching, when will you have your surgery?

I am a McGinn girl, and I can say that I am quite satisfied with the results.  I was her fifth patient.  Check out my blog on the subject in "Sandy's Transition".

You are correct about there being no difference between the techniques used by all the surgeons.

I had my operation a year and a half ago, and the doctor recommended waiting at least six months before having a labiaplasty.  I feel no need to seek to have this done, though I know one girl who did.

Once the tissues heal, there is no "Frankenpussy"  look to it.  I have a completely natural looking labia/clitoris/vaginal vestibule.  My partner has also said that I look completely natural as well.

Having a follow up labiaplasty is completely optional, and to my mind, mostly unnecessary.  You will get more definition in your labia as a result, but having seen many, many pictures of both natural and surgically altered female genitalia, it is very natural looking.

I think you'll have a wonderful experience and will be completely satisfied.  You will not be disappointed.

Yes, one of the primary reasons I chose Dr. McGinn was her passion.  She says she has the best job on the planet, because she can help the community.  Your term of being magical is very true.

I'll be a McGinn girl too next June and I can't wait! Basically she says the same thing Sandy said. I think the best thing to do is wait and see but after talking to Dr. McGinn I don't think it will be necessary to have the secondary procedure done.

That's pretty much what I thought, and is also the impression I got from Dr. McGinn herself... while I trust her I guess I just needed to get reinforcement to soothe my nerves which is all I can really ask for at this point.

Sandy,  I read your blog and it was helpful.  I think knowing what to expect and that with time it will all turn out ok is possibly the most empowering thing.

I will have my surgery in January - only 9 weeks left!
