Eye drops

What is the best type of eye drops to use for dry, itchy, burning eyes?  I have that almost constantly, especially when I wipe my eyes and either sweat or oil from my face gets in my eyes.  I'm using Visine now, with the green on the bottle, called A.C., but it makes my eyes worse.

Do you wear contacts?  Doctors warn not to use Visine because it can damage the lens.  Use anything that is made for contact wearers.  They are more natural for the eyes.

I was wanting to get contacts but with as ditzy as I am I couldn't take care of them properly.  But I appreciate the information.  Sadly, I wear glasses.  I'm 25 and my eye doctor said "well you don't need bifocals - yet".  I was like "yet?"  lol  I have to take glasses off to read.

I use eye drops at least once a week they are a nessasaty when you wear contacts. I would have a look at the eye drops in shops and read the backs on them to find out how they can help.

Just a thought maybe you have an allergy to something?!

Yeah I'll look on the backs of the eye drops to see what I can find out.. I was thinking I may have an eye allergy to smoke, because i know it bothers my eyes to get sweat and skin oil in them.  I get styes a lot, and dry eyes to where they turn red and start to burn..  Anyway about the smoke thing, I smoke but not that often.  I do notice that if I hold the cigarette in my mouth to type, I turn my head sideways to get the smoke out of my face because it gets in my eyes.   Other times I can smoke and it don't bother them at all.

I'll be back to check this part of the forum soon, my nephew is crying and I think it's because he don't want to go home.  He's pretending to be asleep (he told me the other day that he faked being sick to get out of school).

Anyway I'll be back, thank you so much for the advice .. stupid me I don't think about looking on the back of it or thinking I may have an allergy to it. lol  good bye for now.

I had to take my glasses off to read also. So I got bifocals that go down to nothing in the reading zone.

WOW I didn't know!  If my prescription changes next time I see the eye doctor I'll run the idea by her and see what she thinks. Thanks for that information.

I use Bausch 'n Lomb's Opcon-A drops. They're a bit better than Visine for allergies, I think. Visine tended to make my eyes sticky after a bit. My tip is to keep them in the refrigerator. It feels so good when those nice cold drops hit puffy itchy eyes.

I got bifocals at 30...needed 'em to look at computer screens because my eyes wouldn't refocus for distance. I swap glasses because I didn't want to sit with them on the end of my nose for 8 hours a day.

This is slightly off topic, but I had a recent eye exam & found out my eyes are getting better. I wear soft contacts & the only thing that remotely makes any sense is that my Dad was farsighted & my Mom is nearsighted.

Getting better?! That's great news!  I noticed mine got a little better when I went on a fruit and veggie diet a couple of years ago.  I don't remember what near/far sighted means, but I can't see far away, everything is fuzzy.  I also noticed that when I take certain medicines I can see the computer screen without glasses.  But when reading a book, it's a hassle.  I got two pairs of reading glasses but I can't see with them to read either.

I've tried many of the OTC eye drops for eye allergies and NONE of them work worth a crap. Now the one I LOVE is homeopathic and sold OTC. It should be sold by all the regular drops and the name is Similasan allergy eye relief. Stuff is awesome.

Eye sight wise, near sight(ed) sees near you, far sight(ed) sees far from you.  Age is why your eyes got better. It happens in your thirties for most or late twenties. They stay the same or get better a touch. Then the forties come and eyesight gets worse again. This is a common thing with eyesight and your eye doc won't normally share that with you. I have no idea why.

I bought some eye drops that have lubrication in them.  It helps too!

Age is why your eyes got better.

I guess that that is the optimist's view of things!

When you look up from your book that you are reading in the park to the city towers 10 miles away,
your eyes are doing a major job of re-focusing, just as any camera would.
You are born with eyes that have amazing powers to alter their focus.
All of us lose our power to alter focus as we age at a slower or faster rate.
A 5 year-old might have the ability to change focus by a difference of 16 diopters.
Someone who is 100 years old will have almost no ability to change their eye focus.
The ability to change focus is called "amplitude of accommodation".

That's why us old folks wear reading glasses!
