Well, today I went and talked to my HR department head and told her about my plans to transition. I don't really have a timeline laid out but mainly wanted to give her a heads up. She was very supportive and happy for me and is pointing me to some resources on campus. I guess the only two people I have left to talk to is my bosses' boss and my twin brother. My twin brother will be much harder than anything I have ever done since he is a redneck/racist/homophobe/angry alcoholic. Going to have to lay out a plan with my therapist to deal with him!

WOW that is great Dana.  There are a lot of resources in the Wiki that can help you in regards to coming out at work.

Just as I and others have advised, Get Everything In Writing.  My HR was very supportive in the beginning, but after our district HR passed over, she began to be less and less supportive.  Then we got a new Store Manager and it went down hill fast.

I don't wish to rain on your parade, but just Please CYA.

Luckily I work in a University environment who thrive on diversity and have specific policies that deal with gender identity. I will still get things in writing but I feel so lucky to be going through this at such an awesome place. It makes me sad to see you went through what you did.
