The one thing about medical technology is that it is constantly advancing, evolving and making things a reality that were impossible only a few short years before.

I stumbled across two articles that reminded me of an old joke that transwomen and transmen other used to say to each other.

We used to remark to each other it would be nice if we could just swap the gender specific body parts.

While the medical technology as of yet hasn't perfected a realistic looking and functional penis for transguys, the news is a little different for transwomen.

Let us, for a moment, say an ideal world is where a loving couple produces a child that is genetically linked to both parents.  That being agreed upon ...

In this ideal world, the child could be conceived through genetically manipulated the combining of the Nucleus of one Parent and the cell of another parent.  There would be no need of sperm and egg, just an available womb ( i.e. A Surrogate Mother ).  This womb could be a Transman in a partnership, a GG in a partnership or a paid Surrogate.  No need for a male and a female, just a woman to carry the child.

Going one step further.  If the child could be brought to full term outside of the body, then the couple would not need to have a Surrogate to carry the child.  In the words of Zager and Evans In their song "The Year 2525"..

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, Won't need no wife.
You'll pick your sons, pick your daughters too
From the bottom of a long glass tube.

But it will never happen as long as the Religious Right

MY BF and I have thought a lot about it. He has 4 kids already that are grown, as well as having grandkids. Even tho I'm not motherly, I've really thought I'd like to be a dad. We've decided to let nature decide for us at this point since I am not able to do anything to move forward yet. I'll just never be 'mom'.
