Alcohol tolerance change on T?

I started T about a month ago and the only changes I've noticed as metabolism and some other minor things. I realized that while drinking with some friends over the weekend, it took a lot more to get a buzz than before. I wasn't a lightweight before either, so it's odd.

Has anyone else noticed an alcohol tolerance increase on T?

No, still takes me a lot. However, I did notice hangovers come easier.

I sure hope that does not happen to me cuz i like my alcohol. Although I do get drunk real easy now so maybe that would be good for me.

A. You're freaking handsome

and B. I've become more of a lightweight since E... Just this Halloweeny I had 4 of those Smirnoff wimp drinks... And let me tell you... Falling asleep at iHop with the debit card in my hand was surprising. That NEVER happens I said. ._. There goes my recklessness I suppose... @_@

Apparently womens bodies produce less of some stomach enzyme too, that breaks down the booze. And our bodies are slowly changing in most categories, even the ones not listed for me...

Sooooooooo.... Yeah. :) Welcome to manhood. Drinking is now a much longer pillowfight. For me... Its now a, "O_____O; Are you seriou- ... I guess I'm done? ._.!!!! *scary*"

I'm in the mood for good sake, I must say :B Its freezing outside... Alas! I have a quiz...

EDIT: AND NO MONEY! :D Oh yeah. Best anti drug ever. NO MONEY. Go figure.

Yeah I have definitely noticed a big change in my tolerance since I started with the estrogen...I used to be able to go all night drinking but now after just two years my intake is considerably less. This is good for me. It's cheaper and better health wise, but sometimes I seem to forget that it affects me differently, and I have one to many. ;)
I guess it makes sense that on T your tolerance with alcohol will go up...

If your metabolism is changing then yes. If you have a fast metabolism then it requires more alcohol to get a buzz. If you have a slower one then it doesn't take as much.

It's not T as much as it is the possibility of your metabolism changing on hormones and your weight or your genetics.

But please remember, just because it takes longer for you to get drunk, doesn't mean the amount isn't bad for your body. ;)

It is a proven fact that gender and elevation make a big difference in alcohol tolerance. Females have a lower tolerance. Also a person can comsume more at sea level than at 12,000 feet.

I take mine through injections, and noticed almost no change in tolerance.

I could pack away five or six whiskeys a night at my local altitude (seven or eight when closer to sea-level, but no more than four in Salt Lake City), both pre-HRT and now.  I should also point out that taking testosterone (or any HRT) orally will make one more susceptible to alcohol-related liver damage because of the way the liver processes oral medications.  This may not have an effect on outright tolerance, but it should definitely be taken into consideration both when starting HRT (heavy drinkers may want to re-think any fear of needles, just to be safe) and when heading to the bar.

Hang-over-ability(?) tends to have more to do with age and elevation.  When visiting friends in the mountains, at only three drinks a night (so not even my limit), I get splitting hang-overs that I swear give me super-sonic hearing and render me with only 20% of my current light perception for the rest of the next day.  At my local elevation, I noticed a very mild headache and grogginess "the morning after" that is amazingly cured with a Vanilla Coke and a few cigarettes (nicotine is a mild stimulant) -- this began about two years ago, so about a year pre-HRT.  My doctor assures me that while my tolerance hasn't gone down, that those who get hang-overs get them worse or more prevalently with age, and those like myself who went from 15* to 25 never having had one may start having mild ones just before hitting thirty.

*yes, I was drinking under-age

Huh, so someone else has experienced this.  For whatever reason, I have noticed an increase in my alcohol tolerance since starting T.  And I wasn't an easy drunk to begin with...

Possible reasons for this?  My bodyweight has increased by 20 lbs, and my metabolism seems faster (I get hungrier a lot quicker now).

Like I said... I've heard that men have more of a certain type of enzyme that breaks it down, in addition to the metabollic rate, it seems to affect all of this

I haven't noticed any difference in my tolerance since going on T. That said, however, there are numerous mitigating factors. When I lived at sea level, I could have maybe four twelve-ounce beers and be to the point of sickness (no, not drunk, because my body doesn't do that anymore). Since then, I've lost 50 lbs (obviously, my metabolism increased dramatically on T), and moved to Denver (which is roughly 5280 feet above sea level). Now I can do 3-4 beers and be pleasantly buzzed, but any more, and I'm sick as a dog for days afterward. However, I don't get hangovers for the most part... unless i go over that 4-beer limit. Yes, I'm a lightweight, though only in that sense of the word. You'd think a 200-lb guy could handle more.

LOL, scratch that last part... just weighed myself for the first time in about a month & a half, and apparently I'm down to 192. Score another for T!!!  ;D

Interesting, this is from the current (December 2009) issue of Discover magazine, in the last page feature "20 Things You Didn't Know About Digestion":

Quote from: Discover magazineWomen produce only 60% as much alcohol dehydrogenase, the enzyme that neutralizes booze, as men do.
