Fighting discrimination can be a tough battle.

But for Diane Schroer, her opponent happened to be the government she once fought for.

As a man.

Schroer, a retired colonel of 25 years for the U.S. Army and NIU alumna, returned to campus for the second annual LGBT Alumni Presentation: "From Battling Terrorism to Fighting Discrimination." A transgender female, Schroer shared the story of her battle against sex discrimination brought on by the Library of Congress.
