The House Committee on Education and Labor, which was due to mark up the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) on Wednesday of this week, has announced that it is postponing its markup. A terse statement on the Committee's website states simply that "This markup has been postponed."

I had posted on Wednesday about rumors of a possible slow-down on ENDA. DC insiders said there was no slow-down, and that the bill is "on track." However, it appeared, after comparing statements made when the bill was introduced with later statements, that the House vote, initially thought to be in October or November, was now being discussed in a "December or February" timeframe. That would put the bill up before the Senate during midterm election campaigns, which could make it more difficult to gain support among conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans.

It is my understanding that the postponement is occurring to make certain technical amendments. Given that the purpose of the markup procedure is to offer such amendments, it is difficult to understand why markup has been postponed. The bill's language has been available in substantially the same form since 2007, when it was last voted on by the House. It is likely that Rep. Miller is taking his cues from LGBT House leaders.

It would suit me fine, except being a minority inside a minority is really hard to get anyone's attention.  Especially if the government thinks we're all just a bunch of perverts trying to get into the ladies room.  This is the federal bathroom bill after all.

I'm way too cynical these days.  I'm waiting for FrankenBarney to come out and support a non-inclusive bill in the senate so he can preserve his power in the house.

After all the house passed the inclusive bill so he can say he did his part.

Maybe next time, or the time after that, or after that.

There is never going to be an all-inclusive ENDA passed. It's a waste of time to hope for one.

If you ask anyone in the LGB community they'll say that it is inclusive.  It includes L, G, and B.

Besides those tr*annies are riding on the shirt tails of the LGB community anyway, who needs 'em?  After all there weren't any tr*nnies at stonewall it was all gays...

Call your CongressCritters, people!! Let them know that this will not stand unnoticed! We really need to keep as much pressure as we can on them to keep us included and get this bill through!

Maybe they are working to rename it, the National Employment Discrimination Act (NEDA) where anyone excluded is being discriminated against.  We NEDA better bill.

Fat chance Janet.  Just go to the "stealth" related posts here and you'll see a whole bunch of us fighting NOT to be part of the T world.  Besides being a minority within a minority, we are way too splintered to be a force on our own.

What we need to do is remind them AGAIN that the T is part of L, G & B and can't be excluded because cross gender expression is the major factor in LGB discrimination.

But if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Tell me about, Julie.  I said that because it will never happen and the only hope we have is to ride along with our LGB sisters and brothers.  And we should go at this backwards.  From now on it is TBLG.

I know there are no lives outside of your own, but it occurs to me that this is the least of the problems Congress ought to be addressing.

We have an unemployment rate that is some areas is approaching 25% in real numbers, and the extension on the UI is about to run out.  So, first off, what good is not being discriminated against in hiring if there are no jobs in the first place?  Second.  Please calculate your personal odds for safety if a quarter of the people around you have lost everything, have no hope, no job, no income and nothing on the way.

The Health Care Bill is not only not what was promised, its more likely to make things worse, not better.

The bail-outs did not work.  Real estate, first residential, now commercial is still collapsing.  And, best of all, they can't even account for most of that money they gave away.  Yet, hearings, investigations on how the hell any of this, and all of this came to pass?  Yeah, I'm waiting on that too.

We are still involved in two wars, neither of them have an end in sight, one situation is getting worse by the day.  Currently there is a call for even more troops.  How many will be needed?  No one can say.  How long will they need to be there?  No one can say.  What will victory look like?  No one can say.  And that's the quagmire trifecta for endless combat, and endless causalities.

But, as I said in the beginning, what good is not being discriminated against if there are no jobs to apply for, or if your going to get into competition with people who are more qualified than you from the get-go?  A friend of mine runs a retail outlet.  He has two (2) part-time, seasonal only jobs, on the first day he ran the ad, he had over 150 apps for each spot, many from people who have decades of retail experience.  And, some of the best jobs, where TG protections are in place, those for city and state government jobs are being eliminated as fast as they can be.

But boy, it sure would be great if we knew we were not going to be discriminated against in jobs, that is, if there were jobs, but hey, at least you weren't discriminated against - still... you're poor, desperate, and no solution in sight.  Will you really feel that much better?

A large chunk of the bailout money never left the feds pockets. A portion of what did leave, has returned. Execs can't have their bonuses until they pay it back.


As for leaving the LBG, it may seem like a good idea, but we actually need them. We may complain we aren't equally represented among them, which is probably true, but without them, we are even less represented, they have FAR more lobbying power than we do alone. We probably get a lot more out of that relationship than we put in.
