Okay so I'm new to the voting thing online :icon_builder:
sooo lets get started :icon_chainsaw: lol

I picked out a few names and I would like to know what one you all think suits the one and only picture of me as my display although my hair is about shoulder level and a darkish brown now. The names I have chosen are:

  • Tala
  • Tina
  • Kira
  • Daciana
  • Dakota
  • Otsana
The Vote will not determine which name I will choose but perhaps help me out in choosing.
To help out (if it helps lol) I am 5'11", slim, brown hair and hazel eyes.
The list is from most favorite to least and suggestions for names would be neat as well to give me more variety.  :icon_weee: Thanks All!

I would suggest that this is one of the few things that we get to truely revell in our condition. I changed first, middle, & last. I paid homage by choosing my Mother's middle name as mine(middle name) too. Chosing somthing close to your given name will create confusion. Cease this moment for yourself & relesh it!

Your name is the most personal (and privlleged) choice about your identity you have - you are born with a name you can change it a little or a lot, as it suits you.  You choose.
But, since you asked, I rank in order from favorite: Kira - Tina - Tala - Dakota (unless you live there) - Daciana - Otsana.

Dakota is a state, named for one of the peoples who lived there, but I bet to most people it's a pick-up truck.

Well I've always loved the name "Tina," as that was the name of my best friend from age 3 to 7 (then she moved away). Not that you remind me of her or anything. I just like the name, and if I'm picking from your list, there you go.  ;)

But I also think names have to feel like "you" when you hear them. I spent ages before settling on mine.

Anastacia is a name I've always liked and considered for myself  :)

Pick a name that was around when you were born. Don't a pick a name that is too young for your era. Try and be sensable with your choices.

Kira is a good name dear. Some suggest choosing a name or names that fit your initials. Dakota is a Souix indian word meaning the allies. P.S. Since you are 5'11" I think you would look great in heels. Sexy. I'm 6' even and found in heels I attract alot of attention and I love it since I'm a vain "B".

lilacwoman

I agree with Bellaoon and say no names similar to old male one or derivatives of it.....which is just what it says on the Soyou want to be a woman? site.
Transitioning is making a complete break so a name needs to be completely new?

I liked Tina too so far its been my main name that I use for everything out side except work I even have a few of my guy friends call me Tina  even though I have nothing done as of yet. But a few know my problem and the ones that don't just think Tina is a joke name because I act more of a girl then a guy.  :icon_weee: I knew about Dakota too but I knew two girls with that name and in my opinion its pretty cool as a name :P.

I think Kira would be a good name. It's short but strong, and it's easy to remember.

I agree with the people who like 'Kira'. It's sexy.  ;)

I like Kira or Otsana.  Otsana sounds exotic.

Another vote for Kira .... by the by, you can spell it Kiera ... which I think is nicer.

Random thoughts....

Of those listed, I LOVE Kira and it would have been on my short list had it been appropriate for someone in their 40's

(I also love it because it was ONJ's name in "Xanadu")

Tina is the other name there that really "suits" your look IMO

-----------
when I was making my short list, i had maybe a dozen or more names I REALLY liked and I thinned it by looking at these factors:

1. unintended consequences - i.e. the accidental "soundalike" factor such as "Anita Morehead" or accidental combination of initials.
Also, things that just didn't sound right together, for instance two names with many syllables is an awkward choice. Try introducing yourself as "Britnnyanna Elizabeth" - that's clumsy. Or phonetic similarity. My last name ends in "Y" and has a long e sound. My middle name at birth (the name my parents chose to call me by since my first is the same as my dad's) also ends in the long e sound and i always hated the way the two sounded when spoken together.

2. for me, I didn't want to mimic the name of anyone I was close to, because I thought it might make them uncomfortable. for instance, "Tammy" is one of my favorite names - but between the "long e" issue and the fact that one of my closest cousins has the nickname Tammy, I crossed it off because I didn't want to "creep her out"

the flip side of this is if you have a friend who has a name you really like, and this friend is open to or supportive of your transition, you might ask her how she feels about you honoring her by adopting her name - she might feel very good about that.

3. Don't be afraid to ask those who know you and know about your status for suggestions. I was talking to an assistant at my dentist's office Monday and she made a big production out of how good the name Gina would have been for me - so much so that I kind of regretted not having ask for suggestions because now that it's in my head, I can see how it should have been on my short list because it does "work"

4. this is one I didn't think of early on and should have. If you don't use cursive writing much (I never do except for signatures) then spend some time "signing" the names you are thinking about. You'll probably have a hard time getting comfortable with a new signature if you are not comfortable with the cursive letters that make up the name.
A perfect example for me is that "Laura" will be much harder for me to get used to than Gina would have been in that regard.
If I had thought of this before, I'd probably not have used the "L" because now that I'm practicing I'm finding that the L doesn't come easy to me for some reason.
Disclaimer: due to serious injury, most of my posts are made via Dragon Dictation which sometimes butchers grammar and mis-hears my words. I'm also too lazy to closely proof-read which means some of my comments will seem strange.

That was why I choice Lynn as my middle name, as a remind and to honor my ex.  It is one half of her first name.

Your list has one name I like but I'm hesitant to suggest it. It was my sisters name. She shared a middle name with another sister. They are both dead.

I now think that it might be an honor to have the name go on even if it isn't due to it having been hers. The name is Tina.

I chose a first name close to my male name.   Firstly it represents what my parents wanted to call me and it is easier for others to remember.   I changed my second name from my father's to my mother's.

On your list I like Kira or Dakota for you, judging on your pic. I had a friend in high school called Khiri (prounounced Kee-ree) as an alternate to Kira as well.
