And suddenly I'm feeling really nervous! I need a bit of moral support here girls. Tell me I haven't gone mad and I'm doing the right thing!

Today I rang Mr Bellringer and I'm going for an initial consultation on Tuesday 22nd Dec and a proceedure shortly after xmas. This makes the whole thing seem very real all of a sudden and, for someone who for the past 25 years has avoided doctors like the plague, rather scary!

I wasn't expecting to feel like this, after all I keep telling myself it's only a minor... But first there's the whole, I'm now going to have to show my bits to a male doctor... who may or may not think that the work his predecessor did was very good... yes I know that's all really silly, but I can't help it.

Then there the fact that it's going to involve anaesthetics, needles and discomfort. But the trouble is I want the end result. Why did I decide to put myself through this after 25 years?

Why do you think we put ourselves thru FFS?  It is pure vanity, but then again we are women and we have that right.

There's also the fact that your'e going to get the benefits of 25 years of additional science and practice in the area...although I don't personally think your'e that old and are just trying to be all motherly to us baby nustcases.

... and Becca - your bribe is in the post for saying you think I'm younger. I wish! I really would LOVE to be 16 again. The music is better, the films are better, the TV is better, the internet exists, people's attitudes to being trans are FAR better, it's a blooming holiday compare with the dark days of the 70's when I was a trans-teen. Mind you all the 23 year olds at my uni last year were a bit shocked to realise that I was older than their mums.

But you are NOT nutcases. You are all very sane - and probably saner than I was when I was young. (Mind you in my day you had to be a bit of a nut to get surgery so young as I did...)

Go for it Jenny, for the short term discomfort its worth the long term benefit.
Janet is right, its natural for a woman to feel a little vain, vanity is a girl thing.
I do admit I had my done purely for cosmetic reasons and to have a natural vulva.
That was over 20years ago, things have moved on, I had a little soreness, but probably what bothered me most was the intense itch lol when I was healing, using different creams, but theres only 1cure for an itch and its not very ladylike lol
On a positive note you'll have no regrets, why did you wait 25years, but its never too late, the very best of luck, take care.

well to be honest I think I waited 25 years because until about 5 years ago I had never seen a photo of a post-op result which looked any better than mine. And the spraying issue was only slight...

But recently I've seen some really impressive (I would never know) results - and as i'm getting older I get increasingly worried that because my urethra really is well hidden and there is nothing on my "doctored" NHS notes to say that I am trans if I am ever in an emergency and unconscious some poor junior doctor may have a real problem.

So put them all together and it's time to reap the benefits of all the medical advances.

Saw him today... very nice man.

Upside of the procedure a much better closer to bio-normal appearance and solving the slight "spraying" probem.

Downside - some loss of sensitivity.

But as my sensitivity was always rather over extreme (it used to almost be painful to have my clit touched) I am taking the risk.

I go in on 27th Jan - apparently I'll be in hospital for just the one night. So wish me luck!

Alison is giving it to me as my xmas pressie!

It would have been a couple of weeks earlier but I formally graduate with my MA on the 23rd Jan and Mr Bellringer didn't want to run the risk of my missing my graduation if there were any complications. So 27th January 2010 now becomes my second rebirth day - to add to my original rebirth day which was 24th July 1984.

LOL - Yes my partner and I used to joke about that with a dear and close friend  of ours who (until he retired) was actually a leading UK gender psychiatrist.

We all used to laugh at the fact that a lot of people in the UK really thought that people go in for a sex change and arrive at the hospital on day1 suited booted and moustached, probably wearing a bowler hat too... only to leave a day later as the perfectly formed bimbo.

They didn't understand the long process they thought it was like a conveyor belt production line...  if only!

Yes - basically it is because he will have to cut into the tissue which forms my pseudo clitoris to get access to rearrange my urethral position - which currently emerges in a ridiculous place behind the clitoral tissue which is neither normal for a male or a female (I was intersex as it happens.)

He also has to reposition some of the remaining sensate erectile material to form my new labia minora.

The upside is that when it is all done I should look pretty normal - but nothing ever comes without a cost... I just hope the loss of sensation isn't too noticable.

Yep - Done under General. He can't catheterise me because he has to move the urethtal opening a fair way. He reckons I'll only be out for about an hour though! But that's why I have to stay one night in hospital...
