I let my guard down today

I was at work today, and some customer was being rude to my co-worker about buying some pregnant food sale. And my co-worker couldn't do anything about because it wasn't for sale.

So we talk about it, and she was like, "I don't know why she's buying this she doesn't even look like she's pregnant but in menopause".

I said, "She looks too old for menopause, doesn't that happen when you're 50? She looks 65".

"You're smart, most guys don't have a clue what that is. I start  talking about it, and then they don't know. And then I feel like 'I'm not talking to you'" erghhh".

Then another customer heard the conversation, "Yes it does happen, blah blah blah, most guys wouldn't have a clue." Then they went on talking about how her mother has it, and the customer had it at 49.

But I didn't realize I cross some gender boundary, do you think I should had even mention it???

Ah, but you are not a guy.  Ok maybe to them, if you are not out.  But you're still not a guy.

I wouldn't worry about it.  I sometimes surprise my gg coworkers with my knowledge of some so-called women's topics- shoes, fashion, cooking (the daily kind, not gormet), certain TV shows, nails, etc.  Please let me stress that I'm not being sexist in calling some topics so-called women's topics; just commenting on how a (outward appearing) male is not supposed to have indepth knowledge about certain topics, according to "society."  But the reason why we should not be calling these topics "women's topics" anyway is because I have acquired this knowledge not because I also think of myself as a woman, but also because I have spent my life in the company of women, and how does one not help being exposed to all of these topics?  Once the women I am with hear me talk with some knowledge of the discussion, they get over the surprise and include me in the discussion (chatting with the women as one with them is a reward in itself).  I think women understand gaining knowledge as life expereience after all, so don't worry about it.

uh, menopause isn't exactly rocket science. any guy with a mother or wife knows women go through it at a certain age.

I've known a fair amount of "women stuff" all my life because I've spent a lot of time with women and have listened to what they say.  They may have thought me odd but they didn't question my gender. 

And any guy who pays attention knows about when women go through menopause.  But that qualifier eliminates many guys.
