I read a very enlightening blog by one of our members recently that has illuminated a good point to the DSM pro-con debate. Namely, removing GID from the DSM would eliminate what little medical coverage we currently get, as there's no proof of it being a physical disorder, and if it's not a physical or medical disorder they can just say, oh, it's cosmetic then, and slap a big "DENIED" on us...just so that we can not be on a mental disorder list that many people haven't even heard of.
I'm all for leaving us on the DSM...even if there was a proof of physical disorder, what about those of us that don't fall in their physical screening? That would be a concrete denial that there was nothing wrong with you and all in your head. Currently the system allows for a more fluid self-diagnosis, for better or for worse.
