French Air Force Orders Transgender Soldier to Become a Man Again
http://carnalnation.com/content/38650/4/french-air-force-orders-transgender-soldier-become-man-againIn 2007, Thierry Ravisé-Giard, a 15-year veteran of the French Air Force, changed gender to become Delphine Ravisé-Giard. Her new identity was accepted by her colleagues and even the military command without issue or incident. For two years, Delphine carried out her duties as usual. She was issued a new social security number and received her salary and other benefits under her new identity. All that remained for Delphine to make her transition complete in the eyes of the law was to petition the court to make the transition official. However, on August 10 of this year, the court denied her request because her mode of transition was not legally sanctioned. French law requires transgendered people to undergo surgery or other medical treatment in order to complete gender transition. Ravisé-Giard takes hormone treatments but has not had other medical procedures, which the court deemed insufficient for legal gender transition. Now the Air Force is retreating from its position of acceptance, ordering Delphine to once again become Thierry.
