German woman wins legal right to be dad

Cologne - A woman living in a lesbian relationship after undergoing a sex change has been granted the right to be the legal father of the couple's biological child, a Cologne court said on Friday.

Before undergoing the sex change, the woman identified as 'Brigitte' had deposited sperm, which was used to artificially inseminate her partner who gave birth to a boy in 2007.

'Brigitte' was born as a boy, referred to by the court as 'Bernd,' but changed her gender in 1997.
