I was wondering what effects these had on hormone levels?
My girlfriend has one and says that it's stopped her periods altogether.
I know it's unlikely that they will stop my bleeding, but if there's a chance then I'm up for it!
I'm just worried what they do to your hormones, cause I don't want to stop my periods but then end up full of estrogen.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Not an expert here... but I know that one of the types of birth control that's commonly prescribed mimics the effects of pregnancy, which I think raises the amount of 'female' hormones in your body. I'm sure someone more educated will come along and answer this, though, so don't take just my word on it.

From personal experience, I can say that some people (such as moi) go absolutely wacky on birth control. I took it for a little over four months (tossing the placebo week out) to try and stop my period, and ended up with the WORST mood swings on the planet. It was like having PMS 24/7. And, it didn't even stop my period. I just spot bled for two straight months.

Never again.  >:(

the implant is glorified progesterone (technically a progestin)

it may stop red deth, but leave other problems (mood, slightly bigger boobs)

I would advise caution before going for it
Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur. Happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr, purr, purr.

So progesterone isn't necessarily going to increase my estrogen levels?

I took the shot... it was HORRIBLE. My hormones haven't been right since then. I gained almost 20 pounds and a full cup size, and I had the 24/7 extreme PMS.. crying for no reason... really angry 90% of the time... AWFUL!
but.... no period.  ::)

My understanding was that progesterone is  precurser hormone and can change to a variety of hormones depending on your bodies need

QuoteProgesterone is also made in smaller amounts by the adrenal glands in both sexes and by the testes in males. Progesterone is a precursor of other hormones such as estrone, estriol, estradiol, testosterone, and all the important adrenal cortical hormones.
