Um, Is James Cameron's Avatar Offensive to Transgender Humans?

http://www.queerty.com/um-is-james-camerons-avatar-offensive-to-transgender-humans-20091216/

Have you seen James Cameron's new bajillion-dollar film Avatar yet? We have not! Probably because today is the film's official release date, and we were not invited to a screening. But that won't stop us from weighing in on a grassroots effort to boycott the film because it offends ... transgender people.

We're still trying to figure out how the movie is demeaning to transgender folks. Or people who believe in evolution. Or something. But take it away, Internet conspiracy theorists! According to Stop Avatar Movie:

Just in reading the article, it seems like quite a reach.  I will see the movie this weekend and let you know.

The only thing in the world that's better than a good parody is when people don't get it, then it becomes twice as funny.

^^ Already linked that...

Problem with a "good parody" is that there is such a thing as a "Too Good" when it comes to parodies.
Ofcourse, there's one of these figurative "laws" that states that someone somewhere will take Any parody seriously (don't remember what it's called) but sometimes one finds parodies written specifically to try and lull you into believing that they're being serious.
This isn't an "Obvious" parody, but it is a parody (that's my story 'till proven otherwise at least), only problem is, if enough people take it seriously, then it can become a problem.

Poe's Law: it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing.

And I do love good parody, its far better than satire and far more devastating.  That people do mistake it (the old National Lampoon and Harvard Lampoon did some letter perfect parodies that fooled lots of people) for the real thing just sets it up for Irony, which is the most perfect form of humor.

QuoteHere's a summary of what is wrong with the Avatar film:

1) Avatar assumes that the hetrosexual, "male" and "female" attraction will still be the primary relationship basis in the future.

2) Avatar ignores the fact of Evolution. Humans are evolving to be being Transgender, NOT hetrosexual.

3) Avatar also assumes that intelligent beings on other worlds would be hetrosexual.

In addition, the film uses militaristic themes and promotes violence as a means of story-telling and social context.

I could say the same about Star wars and Star Trek and a zillion other sci fi stories. I do not believe that humans are 'evolving' into transgender, I just think transgendered people are being seen more.

I saw a few trailers and even used the interactive one. The movie seems to be just as advertised, but then it was just trailers.

Exactly. All the futuristic films and TV shows I've seen presume heterosexuality. Personally, I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie - the trailer blew me away!
