Historic Day for Transgender Women in Asia-Pacific
http://leonalo.wordpress.com/2009/12/16/historic-day-for-transgender-women-in-asia-pacific/It's official – the Asia-Pacific Transgender Network is the world's first official transgender body to represent transgender women across the Asia-Pacific region. The network will represent all transgender women including South Asia's hijras, Indonesia's warias and Thailand's kathoeys. The network will also represent interest groups such as transgender youth, elderly trangenders and transgender sex workers. Our top priority is to champion TG women's health, social and legal rights. Enough said – the picture below says it all.
Tikki Madagascar reports.
Tikki: It's wonderful that a group now exists to represent the rights of transgender women in Asia. I believe that they are some of the most marginalised and discriminated against TG women in the world. It's also wonderful that the group represents the colour and diversity of Asia, including South Asia's hijras and Indonesia's warias. But you're known as an individual activist. How is it that you now speak for TG women in developed Asia?
