I adapted pretty well pretending to be a man, but it never felt "right". It's a bit like what the world looks like when I don't wear my glasses - I can get around all right but things aren't lined up well.
When I went to my doctor for hormones, he said I had the right to be happy. I told him it wasn't about being happy, it was about being whole.
And maybe that's why it matters so much.
