It is being widely reported in the last few days that a transgender named Amanda Simpson has been "appointed" by President Obama to a federal post involving security, and that she hopes hundreds of transgender appointments will follow.

But this reporter is unable to find that name on a list of presidential nominations and appointments on the website for the official  White house list of such apointments.

The only source cited in articles viewed up to this point is an organization whose initials are NCTE, based in Washington, D.C.   The "t" stands for "transgender."

According to that group's website, a transgender named Amanda Simpson has been appointed by the Obama Administration as a Senior Technical Advisor to the Department of Commerce. She'll be working in the Bureau of Industry and Security.

this claim is unfounded, CNN has now covered the appointment.

Washington (CNN) - President Obama appointed a transgender woman, Amanda Simpson, to be a Technical Advisor at the Commerce Department.

Simpson has worked in the aerospace and defense industry for 30 years, and most recently served as Deputy Director in Advanced Technology Development at Raytheon Missile Systems in Tuscon, Arizona. At Raytheon, she made the transition from male to female and helped convince the company to include gender identity and expression to its equal opportunity employment policy.
