Hey all,

So i've booked my surgery and now, of course, I need a letter from my psychiatrist.  So i told him that i need this letter and gave him the requirements and what needs to be included for Dr Garramone.  He looked at it then said i'm going to need to charge u for this as it looks like it requires a lot of informtaion and i need to research the Standards of Care to see if we've been following them correctly ???  He said he had to charge me roughly $100 US dollars :o  I told him that others dont need to pay for theirs.  he told to think about it and let me know if i still want him to write it.  Of course i'm going to need him, theres no one else and he is very aware of that....This is so friggin annoying...And its not money that i have.

That's crazy.  I've never heard of anyone having to pay extra for their surgery letter.  Letters from doctors after surgery, yeah, but not the letter to get the surgery.

How often do you meet with him?  I printed out the SOC for my therapist and highlighted the important parts so that it would be easier to go through.  I also gave her a sample letter I found online that way she would have a template to go off of.

Maybe if you did the grunt work he could either reduce or waive the fee?  Try to work something out.  $100 is ridiculous.

He's playing a game with you.

He's holding the reward but making you beg to ensure you realise how important he is. The demand for payment indicates how materialistic he is. If he really has to do this research then why has he been taking fees for something that he doesn't know about?

Personally, I'd just pay it. You have no choice.

It's a mistake to assume that psychiatrists or most doctors are professionals. Surgeons are skilled professionals. Every other doctror is just someone who wasn't good enough to be a surgeon.

I find the psychiatrist a bit squirmy with the "I have to do some research" bit.
Still, he is a professional that bills for stuff.
Writing an SRS letter, rounded up a bit, is a billable hour.
Writing a carry letter is a form letter and should be tossed off for free.
At least that has been my experience.

Pay the $100 and get your letter.

Shouldn't you have got the letter and THEN booked the surgery?  Sounds like your demanding a preset result.  And if it takes him/her time, then you're going to pay for that time.

He/she is signing off on a professional action, and as a professional she/he needs to protect their interest in this and make sure it meets the standards required.  Some of it, is CYA stuff to be sure, but a good professional always does CYA or they are not professionals for long.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

He said he would have charged me even if I hadnt booked the surgery yet...I mean i already pay $80USD for my shot now I have to pay heaps more for the letter...He definitly has me by the balls.  Its just cheating me for money  I didnt think the letter for top surgery requried as much as bottom.  Now im just worried about all the costs that im going to have to pay with him.

I would pay him, get the surgery and then get another therapist.  And then report him for the rip off.

JMHO,
