Give young transsexuals special ID cards: doc

Young Swedes who suspect they are transsexuals ought to be issued special ID cards allowing them to hide their undesired gender during their trial phase as the opposite sex, according to one of the country's most respected child psychiatrists.

"This has to do with the practical aspects of living life as the opposite gender," Per-Anders Rydelius, chair of the maternal and child health department at Karolinska Institutet's Astrid Lindgren's Children Hospital, told The Local.

"They must be able to show their ID card without people thinking they are being deceived."
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

Its an interesting idea, but I wonder if such cards wouldn't stand out once the idea became well known?  Allowing a new name to be used is good, but immediately following it with the initials of the former name seems awkward.  But, then,  I am not familiar with Swedish names.  How many persons have ID cards which include First Name, two middle initials, Last Name?

Offering the use of puberty blockers, however, would be profoundly humane.

I wonder why it's limited to "young" swedes. What about the older TSs? I'm sure they have the same struggles with incorrect IDs as younger ones.

Yeah, I'd be worried too if there were anything on that card that could ID it as being 'special.'  That's like a half-step away (no matter how well intentioned) from making them sew something on their clothes.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
