     I used to think my own eyelashes accentuated with mascara and liner would be better than artificial ones, but recent experience shows the latter are clearly superior when applied right. They can really feminize the face.
     Since there's not much in these forums about the art of applying eyelashes I was wondering if anyone has some tricks or advice. There are some how to vids on utube  but the irritating thιng is that they make it look so easy. I've found it accursed hard to do right--and unless right, better without.
 
      The lashes are small, the hands large [even using tweezers], the lash has to be placed precisely--and the glue has to hold. Perhaps its just a matter of practice? [Like being able to play a scale smoothly] Thanks for reading...

I bought a pair but I have not tried yet.  But the ones I got were not singles.  And I thought the same thing.  My Lashes are just not enough for me.

I once tried false eyelashes. They were more effective in feminizing my face. Even it was my first try, it was not so much tricky to attach them to my eyelids. But the cost was not realistic for me (at least $2 per day). I prefer mascara, but I do not wear it everyday. Oh. I should mention that some mascaras are as much costly as artificial eyelashes ($60 per month).

I tried false lashes once and I loved them. They were great...but it did take me a good hour to get them on right.

Couple tips:

1. The ones I bought came with a clip that was used to hold the lash and allow for you to put it on. Seemed to work pretty well. I used my fingers and/or toothpick to adjust the lash when it was on.

2. put some extra glue on each end of the lash. They are the parts that get the most stress because they curve at the ends.

I have to confess I don't really understand the eyelashes thing.  Although maybe part of that has to do with being born with naturally long and dark eyelashes.  If I was going to a fancy party maybe I would try the curl/mascara thing.  Otherwise it just seems like so much effort for not so much improvement .

I have used false eyelashes a few times but I must confess that usually I just use mascara.  I found that when applying false lashes it helps to use one of the special tools that come with many sets of lashes.  This is a tweezer with a curved end that holds the lash in place nicely.  It is also important to use just the right amount of adhesive--better to use less than more.  A thin line of adhesive is sufficient.  After the lash is applied to the lid it needs to be very gently pushed down to be sure it adheres to the lid.  It should be attached to the lid close to your natural lashes but not on your lashes.  Like any other manual skill this is something that takes practice.

I can't live without false eyelashes.

The best tips I've learned along the way are

1. To bend them a few times to fit your lashline better before applying the glue. Usually they are too "curved" in shape when you remove them from the package so this helps fitting your eye better. If its too long for your eye size, just trim according to preference.

2. Then also allow the glue to air for 30-45 seconds after application - till it becomes more gummy, you can either blow on them gently or just shake the lash after applying glue.

3. Once you apply the lashes, press on them for about 5 or so seconds to allow it to set.

4. After applying lashes, just coat on some mascara from below and on top so your natural lashes blend in with the falsies.

I only need 5 minutes to get my lashes on these days.

Lashes are also not very expensive, I just get cheap ones asian beauty stores (my favorites are korean brands) and they cost 1-2 bucks a pair or even less. The good quality ones cost 10-15 bucks maximum but they can be reused many many times e.g. 1000 hour eyelashes from eye essentials.

It might sound gross but just make sure you clean it well after use (remove all the glue) and rinse with dettol - the cheap ones last maybe 3 times maximum. There are so many different styles for day or evening looks, once you get used to them its amazing how they can complement your look and make your eyes pop.

Oceanus has great advice. One thing that works for me is using tweezers to apply them. Also, like any endeavor, it really does take some practice to reach perfection.

One thing I think is really important is making sure that they are bent and curved enough to stay on. Otherwise, you'll get an angular, unnatural protrusion at the eyelid where the end of the eyelash is attached.

I'm asian so I have eyelids that tuck under, rather than push up. So when I attach the fake lashes, I just open my eyes and the lids tuck under, the skin above pressing down on the lash base so that it is 'firmly' against my lid.

And yes, it really does feminize the face.

Huh, I hadn't even though about false lashes. I am still struggling with mascara. Oh well, something new to try.

I've used them when I was younger.  They can make one look very "drag queen" unless you have a very feminine face etc.
