I'm having surgery with Dr Dulin from Plano, Tx on 12/22/15. I was wondering if any guys opted out of the lipo of the lateral chest. My surgery is paid for and I'm still debating if I want to do that. I looked on transbucket but wasn't successful.

Hey, man.  When you say lateral chest, I assume you mean the sides of your chest?

I am wondering why you wouldn't go with that if your surgeon thinks it is a good idea.  I think that a number of guys get that (if I am understanding what you are saying is getting done).  What is the down side to you?

Hey there,

Could you clarify what part of the trunk you're talking about? When I hear lateral I'm thinking along the sides of the chest directly beside what they're mainly removing. Just want to be sure you're talking about that and not hip liposuction.

My surgeon includes a bit of lateral lipo with her mastectomy. Whatever she thinks she needs to do to (1) meet your goals, and (2) give you the best aesthetic results possible. I had been binding since 2007 when I finally got surgery, so my breast tissue was broken down and a good bit of it was pushed out to the sides. She took all that off via liposuction in addition to what she removed via incision.

If you're looking for hip lipo to remove the curves, search for mansculpting from Dr. Garramone. I know Dr. Medalie and Dr. Fischer also do a similar procedure. I'm thicker through the waist and didn't think it would look entirely natural for me to not have any fat there, so I didn't opt for it.

Ultimately - your surgeon is a professional. If they routinely perform these surgeries on trans men, I'd let them have free reign to deliver you with the best aesthetic results possible.

I wish Garramone had done some liposuction on the sides of my chest.  I have some puffiness on my sides.  It isn't a lot and my partner at the time said I didn't need it, but I am a perfectionist when it comes to some things.

So, I duly waited the one year one is supposed to wait for revision and then called the office to see about free revision.  Kelly (who is his wife), said that he would do it for free, but of course I would have to pay for the surgi center and such.  Minimum there is $1,300.  Then of course the flight (which isn't too expensive, though), and then staying somewhere.  I figured it wasn't worth it and that if I wanted it done I could head down to Dr. Fischer, who is close by and I don't doubt would do just a good of job.  I don't know if she is one of those surgeons who "won't touch another surgeon's work", but she is such a nice, caring woman (I have met her a couple of times), that I think she would do this.

When I got my top surgery I was not on testosterone.  The sides were soft prior to this, but after I got on T they would tighten up if I flexed that area.  So, I have no idea what that means.  Does that mean tissue doesn't need to be removed?  There is clearly muscle underneath there.  I don't know.  When I sent the pictures to Garramone last year and then talked with him via phone, he told me he didn't see anything that needed to be done, but he would still do it.

When I saw Crane for consult for meta, I asked him if in the surgery he would do some lipo on the sides and he quickly said yes.  He was certainly more focused on my nether regions to bother with anything but a quick glance at my chest.

I am actually feeling hesitant to remind him to do it at the first surgery (I plan to go back for implants).  I have this weird worry that he will be annoyed by it, or have it in his head that he has to get to it and won't put all of his energy into my meta.  I know that is irrational thinking, but I can't get it out of my head.  Subsequently, I think I will just ask him to do it at the implant surgery.  Orrrr...I could be rational about it and simply ask him what he prefers (assuming he is still ok with it).

Anyway, teddybear_zach, if you are talking about the sides of your chest, that would make sense to me, if needed.  You might consider what FTMax said about not doing mansculpture if it doesn't match up with the rest of your body.  I never thought about that FTMax.  Useful info!

I'm sure Dr. Fischer would do it for you. I remember her telling me about other surgeon's work that she had fixed or touched up when we were discussing revisions. I actually need to call her soon. There is a bit of tissue along my sides I feel is extra that I'd like her to take off. When I was considering phallo, Dr. Miro had said he could take it off with the MLD graft. Now that I'm not going that route, I might see about a revision.

If you do have Crane do it, I'd get it done while you're getting implants just for comfort's sake. I think the pain and getting used to everything downstairs would be easier without having any chest soreness. I'm sure the pain would only be a fraction of whatever you experienced initially, but still. If it were me, I'd wait until balls.

PS - Zach, my vote if you're talking about the upper chest is yes 100%. Take as much fat out of that region as your surgeon is willing to do. You can always build up the muscle later. Here is a thread about the hip lipo with some pics:

Thanks for your thoughts, Max.  I had also considered that any soreness in my chest/arm area would not be a good thing when I am dealing with bottom soreness, as you suggested.  Just like we need a strong core to move us around instead of using our arms during top surgery, I need strong arms to manage to move around with my bottom surgery.

Too, I am having a friend come with me, not a partner.  Although I am ok with her helping me out, I want to do as much as possible for myself.

I really don't see myself forgoing the implants, so I don't need to worry that I won't be back on his surgical table and can get this done then.  I really appreciate your thoughts, as I haven't posed this question to anyone to give me advice.

Hey Zach. I'm looking at having surgery with the Dulin/Raphael/Harris practice too. I was under the impression that the lateral chest wall lipo was one of those "up to the discretion of the surgeon" things? If he suggests it for best results, I think I'd probably go with it, because I'm under the impression that it reduces the appearance of dog ears. I guess for me, if I'm already going to be spending $6k+, the extra money is worth it for better aesthetics.

I have very little fat on my chest (for some reason I just don't store much fat there, so you can see my ribs even when I've got a lil extra chub), so I don't expect Dr. Raphael will push me towards it. I'm happy to report back with what he suggests, though.  ;D

things have changed since posting this. 1. my surgery was moved up by 2 weeks. so I'm getting mine done on 12/08. 2. I opted for the additional lipo. I really wanted to just get opinions of those who didn't opt for it.
