I was just sent a list of sites that the government of China censors and prohibits its citizens subjects from viewing.  Out of the three sites were I post two of them were on the list.  Susan's was not.  Really, we need to try harder.

any site likely to mention in any way Tiananmen Square... typing that into Google comes back with 1,350,000 results, quite a lot of websites to ban there.

It's often been said that 'tact' is the ability to tell someone to go ->-bleeped-<- themselves in a manner that they come away thinking its a damn fine idea.

The chinese leaders must really know they are on borrowed time. I have taught a number of Chinese students as Post docs who have returned to China and are working in very good positions. I have visted a number of them and they are ambitious and motivated. Incidentally, they have all been great kids to teach. They know communism doesn't exist. They are very knowledgable about the West and life and freedom. They, believe it or not, share many of the same dreams and aspirations as we do. They want interesting and productive work, a good home life, a future for their children, if they can have them, and food on the table. Haven't met any wanting to dominate the world.

I remember one friend who was in Oz during the Tiananmen (?) Sq massacre who was crying watching his friends being killed. His brother was also killed so he found out later.
He is back in China. He has not forgotten. I asked him once about the Chinese "leaders" and he told me that who had the real power was largely unknown. But they live in an area surrounded by tanks with a lot of soldiers handy. Sounds like real estate for the future?
Then again I am gullible, I like to trust people; helps makes me look like an idiot.

I had a few Chinese students (major Ag and Engineering Graduate College), like most foreign students they were very good (of course, that's what gets them out) but their knowledge of US history was better than most of the kids I had who grew up here.  Sad really.

I don't think they are on borrowed time in the slightest, to the contrary I think the next century will be dominated more and more by communist china as our own empire declines. The creation of the middle class in china was ingenious, and it seems to be as effective of a tool for the Chinese bourgeoisie as it was for ours.

I live near an armory too, there are three m1a2 abrams tanks there, and apache helicopters, f-16 jets and b52 bombers are always around. Interesting, huh? American leaders are the ones on borrowed time, China will be fine.
