Rising Michigan GOP star attacks Trans community

This article over at Bilerico should not be missed. A rising star in the Michigan "Greediest of People" or GOP party is making a run for Secretary of State by changing Michigan's policy to allow transgender people to have their sex changed on their driver's licenses. Representative Paul Scott campaigns by writing:

I'll make it a priority to ensure transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver's license in any circumstance.

One of my best friends, here in Tulsa, is an African American transgender woman. My journey with her has opened my eyes to the insidious nature of transphobic discrimination, and has further sensitized me to cheap punches, like this one.

The number of transphobic comments on that page from our so called allies in the LGB community makes me want to puke.

One solution to this is for the federal government to abolish listing gender on official documents.

If you think about it, what purpose does it serve?

?

I read through it. What did you consider transphobic comments?

I didn't see anything transphobic either.  And I'm all for biometric ID, once that is in place the rest will not matter.  I used to have it at a lab I worked at, put you hand on the glass, it would scan it - you were either OK or not.  All very James Bond at the time.  Now we use a thumbprint scanner as a time clock, come in, put you thumb on the pad, same on the way out - no fuss, no muss.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

In the replies, on the page, there was some idiot ranting off about something. Can't quite recall exactly, but he seemed to think there was a difference between transgender and transexual.

A few others tackled him for it.

Really can't be bothered to check.

The gay community has become a lot more secure in recent years. Certainly miles more than when I was younger. Some seem to have become rather precious.

But it isn't about gay, TG or anything else. It isn't about race, disability, sex, age.

It's about people, all people being allowed to live as they choose and contribute to their society, without being harrassed by those that are too mentally insecure to accept that each of us has an exactly equal right to be here.

A few hundred years ago, you could be arrested and even burned alive for daring to wear clothes that represented another class.

I think we're missing the point of what an "ID" actually is.

IDs list characteristics such as sex, eye color, hair color, height, weight and photos in order to try and establish a link between the ID and the person presenting it.

Eye color has no "purpose" either other than to aid in relating the person to the document.

So rather than eliminate gender, why don't we avoid the confusion by having TWO categories on IDs: one for actual sex, and one for presentation?

What these garbage politicians keep forgetting is that the government is supposed to be "of the people, by the people, and for the people." Our Founding Fathers encouraged violent overthrow of governments not representing the people. What both the government and the masses have continued to forget is that the power is in the hands of the people who in turn grant the government permission to govern them. Instead, they believe it is the other way around where everything a person does in his or her private individual life has to be granted permission by the government. For instance, you don't need to ask for a permit to have a peaceful demonstration on a city sidewalk that is not blocking traffic that everyone pays taxes for. That is a right.

Changing sex is also a right as well. While most of us agree that transsexuals should think clearly before making permanent changes, what a person does to their body is ultimately their decision to make. Nobody should be asking government for permission to make changes to their body. When such changes are made, they should also not be asking permission for the government to treat them as the new gender by changing it on their ID. Rights are demanded and do not require explanation or requests for permission. If the government likes to play such games, then the people should play their own games and in such case, if they don't want to change the ID, then fine. Take a dark pen and write "F" over the "M" or visa versa and move on. If the cops or someone else doesn't accept it, then file suit. People need to start understanding they are citizens, not subjects. If you pay your taxes and are a citizen of the country, you get to decide how you live your life--not the government.
