Bill to expand protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender prisoners was recently re-introduced after veto last year

Sacramento – The California State Assembly Appropriations Committee today passed the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Prisoner Safety Act, AB 633, with bipartisan support. Sponsored by Equality California (EQCA) and introduced by Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco), the bill is designed to prevent violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the state prison system. The bill was vetoed by the Governor last year but was recently reintroduced.
