The Bad Romance singer, 23, had refused to comment on internet speculation about her gender after a series of photos published on forums showed her in an unflattering light.
But she denied the rumour, adding: "At first it was very strange. But, in a sense, I portray myself in a very androgynous way. I like pushing boundaries."
