I think post op MtF passes more. What do I know, I'm alone here.

I'll have to agree with Jamie.  F2M in most situations, but YMMV depending on age/genetics/etc.

I agree here.  :)

It's hard to make generalizations, it really depends on the person; genetic make up of their body, and their situation in life.

I think a lot of the difference is from societies expectations for women compared to men.  I think its more the fact that masculine women are generally more accepted than feminine men.  A person who is is percieved as a "man in a dress" is sadly more likely to hear negative comments than someone who is viewed as a woman in a suit and tie is ok.

A of times I will think I'm passing somewhere, and then wonder if i'm really being seen as a female, and no one cares that I'm wearing mens clothes.

So I guess to add  new question here, do FtMs really pass better? or do we just hear fewer negative comments that make it seem like we pass better?

I don't know, I seem to pass pretty well. The issue that decides this seems to be that it is much easier to induce the effects of male puberty than to erase them. (With the exception of height and body shape. But people seem to ignore body shape if the face is masculine enough and there are lots of short guys.)

Tall women are less common. People also pay more attention to women's faces and are more critical of them. And at least post-HRT, FTMs have unquestionable voices while many MTFs might not.

I'm 175cm / about 5' 9" and never ever had a problem with my voice.  I guess I didn't have a deep voice to start with, but have learnt over the years how to modulate and breath correctly.

Not saying it's everybody. These just seem to be common problems.

It usually depends on the individual. In general it's probably easier for Female to males but some Male to females do look totally female, although I think this is probably a smaller percent.

Depends on the person..
But i was thinking about this actually tonight and i think overall most FTM's pass more than MTF's.

Prolly boils down too:

M2Fs believes F2Ms pass better.
F2Ms believes M2Fs pass better.

My quick 2cents worth of OP.

to me its hit and miss there are alot of trans men here that i would say pass very well but its subjective to looks only voice could destroy the whole thing and if your clocked as females i thing most guys just look away and dont say anything. i guess a better marker would be the opposite gender for instance Mtf being judged passable by females and vice verse. although most people wont tell you weather you passed or not. Unless you here a comment few will directly confront you.

Probably FtMs.  But then, I am also pretty certain this one other teacher where I work is FtM, so it's not like all of them get by unnoticed.

Personally, i think it depends souly on the individual.
I've seen some FtMs who don't pass at all and some MtFs who you wouldn't believe were even trans.
And it goes vice versa.
I think it's much of a much really.
