CHENNAI: India's first ever micro finance scheme for transgenders was launched by Rajathi Ammal Kalaignar here on Friday.

Rajathi Ammal said, "It is important for every individual to earn their own living and not be dependent on anybody." She expressed hope that this scheme will economically empower the transgenders. She also pointed out the efforts made by her daughter Kanimozhi MP in representing the cause of transgenders both in Parliament and in the State government.
