PORTLAND, Ore. - The city of Portland wants to expand its medical coverage for employees who want to get a sex change, a move that will cost $108,000 a year.

According to Mayor Sam Adam's spokesman, Roy Kaufmann, the city would pay 95 percent of the cost for the procedure and leave the remaining five percent for employees to pay out of pocket.

It's covered in SF too for city employees, the problem being that even in good times getting a city job is hard, with tough competition - as they are good jobs with good benefits so all sorts of people want them, particularly in highly desirable places to live like Portland.  Secondly, Portland, like most cities is in dire financial straits and is no doubt getting rid of people right and left and I bet has a hiring freeze in place.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
