So it started to day in my college French course. Class went along, we had to do pair work, so I naturally went with the person behind me. His name is Timothy, he's about my height, rather barrel shaped, and 22. I go by Sebastien in my classes and so things are good there. He was quite interesting, a traveller of sorts, somewhat arrogant, but good company. We continued to talk when class let out and he offered to take me with him to hang out in the Honors Commons in the library on campus.

I'm introduced to a couple of his friends in there and from that point it was all "he" this and "him" that and "buddy" here and there. It was fantastic! Just to be referred to and acknowledged as male by other men. Whew, was it awesome. A bit nerve racking, but it was a very casual meeting as I'm new to them all.

And hand shakes. Heck are men strong! I mean I've got some strength, but it's really only upper moderate on a female scale. I tried to give a firm grip, but my hand is like putty in these guys grips! Mind you both the guys this has happened with were anywhere from 18-25, much bigger than me at 6ft+ (I'm tall on the girl's scale at 5'8", but short for a guy), and physical people. One of them is certified in Krav Manga, I met him today, he was pretty cool. I hope T will bring up to par with these burly men.

So, I just thought I'd share. I don't have a blog anywhere to vent these things and thought this the most relevant place to put it. Just a nice story about my day.  :)

Nice one glad it went so well for you. Truly is no better feeling than being accepted just as you are for who you are

Ah, yes, the crushing handshake.  Welcome to manhood!!  I'm still getting used to that and trying not to wince!  LOL

I grip like there's no tomorrow and I've never had a problem, but I find I struggle with letting go... I mean I don't want to hold a dude's hand (not that anything is wrong if you do) but sometimes I will ease off and he's still gripping my hand or vice versa, or it goes on too long and gets weirdish - I havn't really found that happy medium yet... Maybe I'm over compensating and going in with too firm-a-grip?

But very awesome to just be treated as one of the guys huh! Congrats  :D

FYI, this guy can kill you. So don't try to fight him in a moment of insanity

I'm quite aware of this. Tim and this guy got into a conversation about it all. He explained to what it all was and I saw a video of the guy's master trainer. He's way too big for me to even want to think about fighting as well. :) I'm smart.

ha I'm experiencing the same thing recently.

I just took up jiu jitsu, and of course its all dudes and I'm just another dude.  Its the first experience in my life of being at all "stealth."  Its almost nerve-racking though.  [especially because while I've been on T for 5 months now I'm not nearly as built as any active male beyond age 15 or 16]  I feel almost like I don't have "dude-talk" down.

oh, and at the end of each class we walk in a line and shake everyone else's hand.  Maybe I've just mastered a manly handshake, but I find some of their handshakes rather lax in comparison.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Have you had top? Or do you just wear a binder? I could never do any physical thing with other people unless they were a friend. It worries me terribly that I'll be found out.

To be fair, any martial art can kill you in it's purest form, even in it's watered down regulation version.
Don't be scared to fly alone, find a path that is your own
Love will open every door it's in your hands, the world is yours
Don't hold back and always know, all the answers will unfold
What are you waiting for, spread your wings and soar

Yea I've had top.  Don't think I'd have gone for a grappling style otherwise, but I feel binding would have been alright for a more upright style.  I also pack, and wear a cup, to train.

Wait until you have a stand-off on who can have the strongest hand shake.*

*Yes, I've been involved in them when completely seen as female. What can I say... I'm competitive. Don't ever let the other guy win. ;)

Haha so I'm not the only one? I've had guys tell me "What? How? Dude, you could shatter my hand if you tried. That's not normal." ...I only snickered. But yeah, fun stuff.

Krav Maga. I am from Israel, I should know ;)
It's not a Japanese comic :D (Manga) Maga means touch. Krav means Battle/Fight.

That's great!  So, is Sebastian your regular male name, or just your French class name?

Huhn.  I've never encountered this.  Must not be hanging out with "real men".  ;)

Interesting.  I love learning about the origin of words.  I read something in the paper recently about the security guards at Mall of America having taken up Krav Maga.  Don't shoplift at the Mall of America!  :D

Yes, Jamie-o, Sebastien is my regular male name. Though both my first and middle chosen name are french spellings. Sebastien Ludovic.

Thanks for the binder too! It's whats giving me good confidence with these men! :D
