I submitted my paperwork for my name change today.  Anyone know the turn around time on getting the letter with my case number and such?  Hopefully I can get it completed by graduation.

I would assume that the courthouse where you submitted it would have given you the normal time line for such ?  Ask them, it does vary from one locality to another ( here in Iowa for example, there is a 30 day wait period, then court hearing, other states all done by mail).

I have no idea where you live, but best of luck with the waiting period. I understand the anxiousness of waiting for the change, since I'm at the same stage.

In Ontario after all is said and done, and your letter is a the Registrar General's office, there is a wait of 6-8 weeks for your new birth certificate to arrive.

On the name change form, there is even a blurb dedicated to the wellbeing of transgendered individuals in a checklist of required steps for the name change:
QuoteRequest for Non-Publication in The Ontario Gazette. If you are applying for a change of name, and you wish to request that notice of the name change not be published in The Ontario Gazette because you are a transgendered individual, please contact our office by telephone at 1 800 461-2156 or 416 325-8305 (from Toronto), by fax at 807 343-7459 or by e-mail at infoMGS@ontario.ca.

I changed my last name in the early 70s, while I was living in Scotland.

There, all you have to do is write to any and everyone asking them to use your new name.

Sounds a lot simpler than it actually is.  ;D
