FOTF's Tim Tebow Commercial

Focus On The Family has once again proven that pushing their agenda is more important that the lives of innocent people.  We've seen them campaign against same sex marriage and spew out misinformation and outright lies about trans people, among other things.

Now they have created a commercial that may jeopardize lives.  And it will be aired during the Super Bowl.

In the commercial, college football superstar Tim Tebow's mom will talk about how, against the advice of her doctors, she chose not to have an abortion and her son Tim was born.  The message is, of course, if you ignore your doctor's advice and choose to not have an abortion, even though it may jeopardize your life, you too may give birth to a superstar.  Every mother's dream!

Seems pretty egotistical to me.  And it rings with a taste of greed.  Just imagine, put your life in jeopardy, your kid is born and goes on to be a superstar, makes a lot of money and you can live happily ever after.  Easy fame and fortune! 

Winning the lottery seems a lot safer and I like the odds, they're better.

Of course you have to live through the pregnancy.  But if you die because you ignored your doctor's advice, then your family will be without a wife, mother, sister and daughter.  And your superstar will never be born.

And all this because FOTF is pushing their anti-abortion agenda.  Have they no conscience?  Just because they have millions to blow doesn't mean they don't need to exercise a level of social responsibility. 

But hey, Tim Tebow can throw a pretty mean ball!  What better addition to society can we have?

Actually, old Tim is not a great thrower (his mechanics are pretty slow for the NFL) and he can't take a snap from center for crap - if he's lucky he'll go in the 3rd round, and as a slot back.  If were lucky, he'll have to go to the Raiders and play for Al Davis, the NFL's version of hell.

But I can't for the life of me understand the decision to air the commercial in the first place.  Some mighty big c*ck slurping going on somewhere up in the executive suites for that decision to have had happen.  I mean why?  It's not like they can't sell the spot to something else - they turned away lots of ads and advertisers.  Mostly ads using sex to sell beer - yeah, that's a shock.  Can't use sex to sell being a vegetarian.  But this stuff is OK?  I just don't get it.

No matter how you feel about the subject - I think we can all pretty much agree that no one watching the superbowl is interested in that stuff at that time.  We invented things like superbowls so we DON'T have to think about that stuff for a few hours.  Yeesh.  I'm betting that mostly its going to be a national moment of awkward silence in superbowl parties nationwide.

But a whole lot of football fans have been thinking that Tim has been pretty much a jerk the last few years.  The whole bible quote thing under the eyes - really, does god care about college football games?  And if god was a football fan, would Florida State be the divine choice?  Really?  They didn't do all that awesome, they chocked most of their big games.  What exactly is Issiah saying about going across the middle on third and short yardage?  And his insisting that he's only going into the NFL as a quarterback.  And the fact that he's really not that good.

Tebow will probably get eaten up in the NFL.  And if he manages to find a way to survive he'll probably succumb to fame and fortune.  But that isn't going to do much for the many who are offended by this FOTF commercial.

Luckily, Jimmy Kimmel recognized that the other side needs to be heard.

I'm sorry, I have no issue with the Tebow's putting forth their personal feelings on the issue of abortion.  I have no issue with Tim putting Bible verses under his eyes during a game.  These are supposed to be basic rights under our free society.

I have no problem with abortions, to save the mothers life, or in cases of rape and/or incest, but I do object to abortion on demand just because being pregnant is inconvienent.

Very few of the millions of abortions a year are for medical reasons.

Tebow's mother had a choice and she took it.  Great, I'm glad for her.

But, if someone else chooses differently, then they should not be demonized for their CHOICE!

FOTF is all about defeating a woman's RIGHT to choose.  I am totally against that!

Are we upset at these groups because they present any danger to us, or because we disagree?

As for abortion, I've never been pregnant, nor am I ever likely to be. I, personally take the position that, it's really none of my business.

The problem is not with thinking women, the problem is with easily impressionable women, especially if they are devoutly Christian.  And this ad targets impressionable and devoutly Christian people. 

FOTF cites "the homosexual agenda" often, as some sort of evil attempt to destroy society.  But it's okay for them to send the message that abortion is not the proper choice even if the mother's life is in jeopardy.  Who really has the agenda here?

I was happy to see the commercial had little impact, except for those who went to the website.  I blinked and it was over.

Still, that should not be a reason to forgive them for what I see as selfish irresponsibility.

I liked the commercial. To me it celebrated a mother's choice to go through her pregnancy. I am anti-abortion but I detest that FOTF demonizes transgender people.

Tim Tebow will need a lot a work on his game. He has deficiencies that can be corrected. More important is his decision making and accuracy throwing the ball. I'm curious to see what team drafts him.

This is Schroedinger's Vigoda, you don't know he's not dead until you see him on a commercial. The man was born in 1921 for crying out loud, he's a powerhouse.
