They're the same, the only difference appears to be price.
As for DIY vs. non-DIY, to each his own.
I've known of cases where ppl did it DIY, but told their GP what they were doing and why they needed the lab work done. In most cases, the GP should support the lab work, in pretty much the same vein as encouraging you to quit smoking, etc, whether they agree to write you scripts or not.
As for the labs being drawn, speaking as a Paramedic, chosing my words carefully, they're only really of concern if you're older or otherwise high risk. As for the testosterone level test, I agree with the school of thought that says its only purpose is for bragging rights, we're all the same, no one is more girl just becuase their T levels are lower.
DIY in general? I'm ok with it as long as you understand the risks and are aware of the implications of what you're doing. Being a self described "survior" of some bad therapists and old school docs, I'd hate to see costs and/or gatekeepers be a barrier for anyone, but like anything else, it has its own risks.
