One Million Transgender Youth And Young Adults In the US?

  According to the United States Census Bureau as of July, 2008, San Francisco is the twelfth (12) largest city in the United States.  The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) serves over 55,000 students. The statistics stated in the following article used on a national model would indicate there is a need for Transgender, as well as Bisexual, Lesbian and Gay services in all school systems.
  The arguement has been made that anti bully laws are not necessary. The opponents to said laws say there are anti harassment rules and laws on the books already.
  The reply would be that Transgender students have a high rate of sucidal ideation and far different health needs. Transgender youth and young adults have greater and different needs than the average cisgender student.

If HRC's estimate of 1 in 400 people are transgendered in some fashion, then one million total Americans is a reasonable estimate.

I can't vouch for HRC's position but there's more transgender people than a million.
