Montreal designer Rad Hourani wages the battle of the sexless at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York

"I've always wanted to live a man's life in a woman's body."

That was Diane von Furstenberg quoting... Diane von Furstenberg, in her notes from last week's show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Didn't Coco Chanel live by the same maxim in, oh, the 1920s? How far we haven't come.

There were no fierce ->-bleeped-<- inspirations in Furstenberg's show, no drag princesses, no androgynes. Instead, like other top New York designers, she did masculine-feminine in the most literal way: a mix of "menswear influences" and femmey silks and prints. It's unusual for DvF, perhaps. But it's hardly progressive.
