Has anybody ran into a problem when trying to enter a bar or for anything else for that matter? Last night I went out with a couple friends to a bar and got carded. The only problem is the owner didn't believe that the person in the photo was me! On one hand its a good thing but I can see its going to be w problem.

Hard choice, the bar guy is liable for serving, so I can see where they would want an ID that clearly shows who you are (I've run into this problem doing Insane Clown Posse shows) and matches the person who is giving it to them.  Perhaps it's time to have the photograph updated.

ID is a pain in general.  My last license expired in august and it took me until february to acquire all the various other ID I needed just to renew my driver's license (Thank god I'm not in New Jersey anymore, that 6 point system is so bogus).

Now I just need to stop being lazy and take a new photo to renew my passport.

I had a lot of problems with this before I had a congruent id.... my solution was to speak softly in a deep voice into the bouncer's ear -- It almost always resolved the issue quietly without a scene.

What is Carded? I've never heard that term before? Is that an American term? what does it mean?

It's being asked to produce a legal ID to prove you are old enough to get served (21).  Mostly it's a driver's licence, but military IDs and Passports are also valid.

So either you don't look to be 21 - and the penalties for serving underage persons can be very stiff - or you are in a place like Minneapolis where there is a city ordinance that requires that everyone entering such a place show ID.

Have him pull an Austin Powers.

Er, well, I suppose not.

So far I haven't had an issue like that. I mean, really, I think most people get that it'd be pretty frigging stupid to pull out an ID like that unless it was real... I just feel really crappy when I get carded since I've had to ID myself 4 times in 4 days in the past week. Most ridiculous was when I was helping a friend shop for a sex toy for her birthday and we went into the media room.

You could, I suppose, acquire a carry letter. If you're that far into transition without one, well... you may have worse problems in the future.

Or, it'd be degrading, but you could try to pass it off as drag. Your safety may vary depending on your location.

I always worry about having to show identification, as I haven't changed my name legally yet and still appear male on my ID. When people look at my OHIP card they stare at it for about 5 minutes until they decide it's actually me.

I used to get weird looks and stuff now and then before I changed my name, but it didn't happen that often. Then again I mostly go to clubs and bars that I know are LGBT friendly, so I don't think I was anything they hadn't come across before most of the time. I still worry sometimes now, but only because of the M that's still on there. Unfortunately I can't get the gender on it changed without proof of surgery, but I guess that's more me being paranoid than thinking I don't pass. I always worry someone is going to take a closer look than most and ask about that.
