On Saturday, June 28, 1969, at about 1:20 am, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a local nightclub in the Greenwich Village section of New York City, catering to mainly gay men. Generally, those with identification were released and free to go. Those without identification were arrested until their identity could be confirmed. One thing certain to get one arrested on nights police raided the Stonewall Inn was cross-dressing (dressing in the clothing of the opposite anatomical gender). Those thought to be cross-dressing were taken aside by female officers, and literally subjected to a genitalia check. Once cross-dressing was confirmed, the "offenders" were arrested, and more often than not subjected to physical abuse by police in the process.

We should not be part of the greater LGBT. They throw us under the bus at every turn.
I for one will never again suport the LGBT, not even on a local level.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

I agree, we shouldn't try to be part of the gay/lesbian community.

They seek to assert their birth sex and are attracted to it.

We seek to avoid our birth sex.

I suggest we should seek the moral high ground. We are not interested in campaigns, in trans pride, in exhibitionism.

We seek to live decent, honest lives. Contributing to society. Conforming to its laws.

We are not angry.

I support equality for all; TLBG, IS, straight, etc...

Actually, it is the older generation of gays and lesbians that keeps throwing us under the bus.  The younger generation gets it, hence the anger over Frank's and HRC's latest attempts to remove transgender protections from ENDA.  The "Good Ol' Boys" political network didn't work out to well for Frank and HRC this last time, largely thanks to those who grew up post-Stonewall.

I'll get into the reasons behind that in the next part.

It is the older generation of lesbian and gay people that are the current leaders in the LGBT.

I, for one, am a bit angry.  That damned bus I keep getting thrown under is heavy!

But, I am unwilling to give gays and lesbians what they want, for us to go back to the silence of the 1980's.  That resulted in zero progress, and I would argue society actually regressed considerably.  The assimilationists (mostly gay men) lived in a different sort of closet, while the separatists (mostly lesbians) lived as social and economic outcasts.  Meanwhile, we were beaten and murdered in increasingly horrific ways and increasing numbers each year.

When we who are transgender fought back in 1969, a movement began that, arguably, continues to this day, with us in the lead very early on.  When we who are transgender fought back in different ways beginning in the 1990's, the movement for equality was reborn.

Without the "T" in LGBT, none of us progress.  They need us for our willingness to fight for equality every bit as much as we need them for their larger numbers and economic power.

Then replace them.
