Iolanthe

Hello, everyone. My name is Iolanthe ("Lannie" for short). I live in Palm Springs, CA, just turned sixty years old (yikes!) and am a lady novelist. (Well, perhaps an occasional lapse in the "lady" department, but I do my best.) I don't recollect exactly how I stumbled across this site --one of those fortuitous accidents, I suppose-- but I'm glad I did.

Meantime, not being the most computer-savvy gal, I've immediately encountered difficulties, in that I cannot figure out how to fill in my profile. For some reason, when I click on the "Profile" link, the page where I supposedly fill in my personal info doesn't present itself. So, I'd be most appreciative if some knowledgeable soul will help me get my act together. (A tall order, but I must rely on the kindness of strangers.)

Thank you, and it's nice to be here.

Welcome to the group.
The reason you cant post a profile is simple you need to have a certain amount of posts before you can fill out the avatar.
Soon Janet will probably show up and link the rules.

So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Hi Lannie, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 4300 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister. :icon_hug:

And be sure to check out these links ( MUST READS )

Hugs and Love,
Janet

Aha! So that's it. Thank you, Cynthialee and Janet, for the clarification. So I must earn my bona fides by posting, eh? Very sensible way to weed out the undesirables.

EDIT: Removed link.  See rule 13.

Lannie,
Your site is in my opinion too commercial. In my opinion it should not be posted at Susan's. Feel free to pm Nero or Susan if you wish for their opinion as well, but as a mod I would have to delete it if it was posted.

Hi, Cindy.

Ms. K8 suggested I e-mail Susan (I'm not permitted to pm yet) so I have followed her suggestion and done so. Being a law-abiding sort, I naturally wish to abide by all the guidelines.

Welcome to Susan's, Lannie. :icon_flower:

I realized this morning that I was so busy wearing my moderator hat :police: that I didn't welcome you as I should have. :icon_redface:

But I do want to welcome you.  I am just a little older than you, so there are several of us *ahem* women of a certain age about here.

I hope you enjoy your stay.  There's a lot of good information and good people and good feeling here.  Happy exploring. :icon_wave:

Thank you for the gracious welcome, Kate. It's a pleasure to "meet" you, especially as we are more-or-less contemporaries. (I occasionally feel somewhat antediluvian amongst all these young folks!)

This forum looks most interesting, informative, and -thank heaven!- educated. I've migrated over from a supposed writing forum, wherein scores of eager wannabee "novelists" demonstrate their authorial skills by failing to correctly differentiate between "their", "there", and "they're".

I am very glad to be here. (You have NO idea.)

As the child of an English teacher who when I was in college would return my letters marked up in red pencil, I do understand. ;)

Omigosh, Kate, you got red-penciled too?! That is sooo funny!

Dad isn't an English teacher, but a writer. In addition to the corrections, I was treated to helpful little literary aphorisms scrawled in the margin: "Murder your darlings", "When in doubt leave it out", and so forth.

Despite all of this, I majored in English. Glutton for punishment, perhaps, but I loved it. Still do.

Nice to meet you Lannie, you have a charming introduction.  I adore the natural flow and word choice of seasoned writers, and hope to hear more of your work.

Vyn, I'm pleased to make your cyber-acquaintance as well. Thanks for the kind words. (In terms of chronology, I'd prefer to be a little less "seasoned", but... c'est la vie.)
