Hi there,

I am having my surgery this year and planning on taking two to three months off work. I was wondering how long can I expect to have to wait before going on holiday say flying away for a week or two? How long a flight? 2-4hrs. Is it even possible? or am I kidding myself.

I depends on how fast you heal.

If like me you heal fast then you'll be fine to sit on a plane for a couple of hours after a month or so...

You do get rather tired in the first couple of weeks. But after that it was ok as long as no one expected me to concentrate on anything too demanding - the biggest problem, which was why it took me a full two and a half months to gte back to work, was that my head was all over the place and it took all of that time to put my brain back together! The Euphoria you feel just seems to scramble everything.

It was the same with the revision op - that was in Jan - I'm only just starting to get mentally fully back in harness now!

I was on a plane 4 days after surgery, on the way home, about  hours in transit. I wouldn't recommend it LOL!

After a month at home I was going stir crazy and went back to work (office work). I would love to have taken a holiday :)

You know... this is a perfect chance... to wait for the last minute flight/holiday deals and see if they really do have some amazing ones at the last second ..... whilst waiting to see how you feel after the surgery   ;D

I poke fun, but you can't predict, really, you cannot, where you will be in your healing!  Congrats again Stardust on your upcoming surgery!

Just my opinion ;)

Thanks Melan, actually I was thinking about the last minute one's. If I felt OK and was healing well I'd think about just hoping on a plane and go somewhere relaxing in the sun.

I would wait until you are healed before flying or traveling. I had my surgery in Thailand and it was about 23 hour flight. I felt very uncomfortable and going through the airports was hard also. I did it but would not recommend it unless you go someplace for your surgery and have to fly home.
