Hysto Questions.

I'm 98 days on T at the moment I write this, and I plan to have a hysterectomy as soon as possible.
The chest can wait a little bit and honestly, I'm not quite decided what I want to do with the bottom bits just yet.

So my questions are as followed.

How much did you have removed/do you plan to have removed? Any specific reason?
(I actually think I'd like to have cervix, womb and ovaries removed, but leave the vagina, again, cause I'm not quite decided on what exactly to do with the rest of the bottom bits and would like to avoid any scar tissue there before hand. Is this a reasonable thought/reason?)

Who did you go to?
(as in... which type of doc did you go to, to start the process of getting the appointment for hysto... I mean, I have no idea who I'm supposed to ask for this actually, and my psychiatrist isn't actually helping.)

How long can one expect to be "out of commission for healing"?
How expensive is this? (I know I can't rely on the numbers but.. )

Anything else you can think of that would constitute "basic intel" on the whole thing?

I had it ALL removed. Cervix, womb, ovaries and vagina (not having a vagina is amazing and it feels totally natural). This was all done over stage 1 & 2 of phalloplasty with Dr Ralph via St Peters Andrology, London.

No idea about the price, but i hear its pretty expensive - certainly not something i could afford with being out of work as i am currently.

After my first surgery which was Hysto and RFF Phallo i was out of comission for well over 6 weeks, but its very much down to the individual, i had some issues with secondary infections and the like but nothing serious. Even without the phallo surgery i'd say it would have taken me just about the same time to heal with just a hysto - it is serious surgery afterall and the body does need time to readjust.

I dunno what the policy about posting links on this site is so i'll just say look online for a list of surgeons whom have performed hystos on Tguys before, there are a load of them out there and you would be best to try and contact your chosen surgeon direct via their office for more info.

I would be having the Hysto as "just that" and not with other work.
I want to spread out my knife work a fair bit as I don't wanna deal with everything healing at the same time. Hoping it won't aggravate the fibro as much.

Miniar, maybe you could add other options to your poll. I'm one year on T, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my bottom half. It doesn't help that I would have to pay for it out of pocket. There's a part of me that says, "If it's not a possibility now, why even make a decision?" But even if I had the money or the insurance coverage right now, I would probably take a year or so to decide what to do.

I do have an ideal scenario that would involve hanging onto my internal parts until someone can convert my o-bits into testes, bring them down outside of my body, and let them do the work that regular guys' testes do. But I don't think that's going to happen before I must have my internals removed for medical reasons (by then, maybe insurance will cover it, if I still have insurance).

Everything else would be removed and the hole sealed up. But I don't want to remove the innie until I can have an outie installed. I keep thinking about a cloned penis...yeah, not in my lifetime.

I answered that I am undecided, but I thought I might answer this question anyway.

For me, it's probably only a matter of time before I have hysto. I've been told that the surgery needs to happen at some point because of HRT, so I expect that it will happen in the next several years. But I haven't seen any definitive research that indicates that hysto is an absolute necessity. All I've seen is the...call it community wisdom that I hear from trans guys, that the organs must come out because that's what the doctors say. I haven't had a doctor tell me this; only trans guys. I need to do some research, obviously.

One worry? That hysto will interfere with my current sexual function. One concern? If I keep my front hole, how much of the innards do I want yanked out? Everything? Get rid of the ovaries, obviously, but why keep the cervix?

I started T 3 months ago and plan on getting top surgery first but then after that a hysto as soon as I can (which will still be awhile off). I want to get everything removed just because hey I don't need it, don't want it so why not take it out. And would definitely get the hole closed up because I don't use it and don't want it, and its not supposed to be there in the first place.

I had it all removed also. Total hysto. Nice scar to prove it lol

the gyno did my surgery feb 07, they told me that i would be out of commission for 8 weeks. Sure enough by 7 weeks i was climbing back up on my jeep, it was a bumpy ride.

April 3rd will be 3 years i have been on T.

I plan on having top surgery in 2011. I should have saved enough. My health ins wont pay for my top surgery so its taking an extra year.

I initially wasn't too concerned about having the insides out any time soon.  But I've heard so many people say that they had much better results from the T once they got the ovaries out and were no longer producing so much E.  I've been frustrated with the lack of/slowness of the changes, plus I've been having a lot of pain and cramping since starting T, so I would really like to have the hysto as soon as possible.  But then, I really want the chest done as soon as possible, as well, and I can't see how I'm going to be able to afford either one.    I keep hoping for PCOS, or some such thing that would make it cover-able by insurance.  Is that twisted? 

I'm not sure how much I want removed.  Definitely the ovaries and the womb, for the above reasons.  I'm not sure about the cervix.  On the one hand, nobody really knows if there is an increase in the possibility of cervical cancer because of the T.  Plus, if you keep it, I suspect you would have to continue having regular exams.  But if it's removed there is an increased chance of vaginal prolapse.  And I imagine sewing the end closed would shorten the channel, and I don't have an extraordinary amount of depth as it is ... Sorry.  TMI.    I definitely don't want to lose the VJ at this time because A) I'm not opposed to using it if I can't have a fully functional penis, and B) There's always a chance that some future procedure for surgically creating a penis will end up using that material. 

And as for whom to go to, if you are not planning bottom surgery at the same time, probably an OBGYN.
