Hi everyone

I am looking into growing my own hair as I have had enough of wearing wigs and if I should ever decide to go full-time one day, which I might then a full head of my own hair would be a big advantage.

It would come as no surprise that I don't have enough of my own hair to grow otherwise I wouldn't be wasting my money on wigs. To give you an idea on how much hair I do have, take a look at diagram III on this chart http://www.truedorin.com/~truedori/img/uploaded/1226949883.gif
although I'm not completely bald, which is a relief I do however have a fair amount missing.

I am looking at a quick and permenant solution to this problem and was thinking of a surgery procedure like hair grafting. Has anyone else had this done? I could try hormones also to see if they can help but I don't believe they will bring back all my hair. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks xxx

I am more along the lines of a III Vortex.  I have grown mine out and use a topper to fill in where it isn't very thick.  Works for me.

I fall between a II and a III.  I've grown mine out and part it in the middle so as to hide the recession.  ;)

I know a girl who went and had the grafting done.  She was close to a IV and the hairs are coming in quite nicely now.  She said that the pain wasn't that bad and the doctors had a movie on to keep her attention occupied.  They took a strip off of the back of her head, removed the follicles, and then transplanted them into the area of her receded hairline.  It looked pretty nasty but she's happy with the results these days.

Looking at that image of the hair from what i can see in the mirror seems i am more a II hard to tell really from myself looking unless i got a specific opinon about it lol.

Only just started growing mine dont have any wigs since i am only starting out but i hope i can at least grow mine and use it to cover over the balding sections i maybe starting on the IIa but not exactly sure what i should look for on the front. Be it thining in general or bald spots within the hair itself.

To stop further receding of the male pattern baldness one needs to go on anti androgen blockers and if you want to change your gender from male to female then you can add estrogen (cross hormones) to prevent further loss.

Since you have indicated the type of hair pattern baldness that you currently have then the best two treatments you can have in conjunction with the hormones listed above are:

One of the top hair surgeons that deals with the above surgery methods is Dr Konior and there are others listed at this particular site.

There are other web sites that will explain the details in a lot more depth but this will give you the necessary information to do further research and help you solve your problem.

Kind Regards

I had grafts done in February 2008.   Worked fine and covered most of the MPB but I need more but can't afford.
WARNING - POINT TO BE AWARE OF!
To get grafts the surgeon will try to take a wide slice of scalp from back of head - thats Ok s the hairs there never die - BUT! stitching up that gash pulls the front scalp back so the forehead gets tallers needing more transplants.

I didn't know that or I'd have gone for the punch grafting or maybe ask the surgeon to take lots of little slices to minimise the front scalp pullback.

On the whole I'm very glad I got the transplants.

forgot to add.

the grafts are solid enough to allow hair to be washed the next day to get rid of the blood and mess...never felt so dirty...and after about 10 days the hairs started falling out and continued for several weeks until all had fallen but by then the first of the new hairs from the transplanted follicles were coming through and after about 3 months I had a nice covering.
If I ever get the money I'd like to go for a scalp advancement to shorten the forehead and some more transplants to cover the MPB.
I know I'm on estrogen for life but I do think the MPB is continuing and only transplanting lifelong follicles from back will cure it.

I think my hair is between I and II.

Although I did not notice it clearly, hair dressers commented that I am loosing hairs, asking me to purchase some special shampoo or get special hair treatment. I always refused their proposal, and at first I thought it was a kind of threat to sell something.

I have taken Finasteride for about 6 months just for delaying hair-loss by aging. I am not quite sure whether it is effective for me, but I will continue to take it.

Just do it.
