Years ago a friend of mine said, "Don't say anything on the internet you wouldn't in a crowded elevator." People should use common sense. I wonder even about some of my friends who like to make their entire life public for no real logical reason. Putting something online is essentially the same as publishing it in a newspaper. Once it is out there, it is pretty hard to get rid of. Just like if something appears in a newspaper, while the paper could edit its online version, you would have to find every newspaper and destroy it to get rid of the content. The same with something published online. You could delete a post you made a year ago but there are likely copies of it all over the place where people have quoted you not only on this forum but perhaps have referenced it from their own websites.

I've always believed in a certain level of anonymity. Sometimes it is good to make some things public as you can't live in a cave but you be selective about it. If I want to meet someone in person from this forum I may do so and share my information with them but without making it public for everyone. I wonder how many people put stuff on Twitter saying "Just got my new super cool sound system in my home" followed by "I'm leaving to go to the party" followed by "Just got home and someone broke in and stole my sound system." HELLO!

What ability do users have to delete content from the forum on their own, anyway? Other people quoting you is out, of course. You can erase your posts, but you can't delete threads that have been replied to? If you delete posts, does it bump the thread (I'm thinking it doesn't, since threads seem to be constantly resorted by date of last activity)?

the sort is by last post, edits don't change that (nor deletion of posts)
