I'm on the 8th.

Wow!  That's a Thursday.  Looks like that's going to be a busy week for them.  The first weekend in July is a long holiday weekend in Canada meaning Monday most everything is closed.  Then the week of the 19th, they close down for six weeks.  I'm wondering if there are surgeries all that week.  If so, he'll be bringing in close to a hundred grand for that week alone.  Not bad for a weeks work!

I could of had the 15th. it was either the 8th or the 15th. I choose the 8th since it was a few days earlier. I heard July is there busiest month tryin to do as many before they close for vacation.

You might get a early appointment someone could cancel. When I called in early Jan they gave me Sept. Then I got a call back sayin I could be seen in July One of his last patients before vacation.

Wish i could go tomorrow! but just not feasible. My brother is going to come with me. Due to his work he said end of Oct early Nov would work for him. Plus due to time off for recovery and all that just gives me more time to save some coins. Oh and my 41st B-day is Oct 21st. I asked but Susan said wasn't available.

Well definitely keep us posted on how it all goes. I was wondering, I saw a video on YouTube where a woman who went to Brassard said the they just did a spinal on her not general anesthesia. On the info they sent me they said its up to the anesthesiologist. Wondering what most girls get? Im hoping they knock me the hell out!! LOL

That's pretty freaky.  Who did her surgery?  That's probably why they ask if you remembered anything about the surgery.

Here's a link which details the likelihood of waking up during surgery

I'm leaning toward the epidural, but I have to be assured that there is absolutely no chance of becoming aware.  Of everyone I talked with who have had epidural, not one was in and out during the surgery.  It's a scary thought, though.

Dr. Pichet in Thailand.

Since I posted that link I've been reading more about this and the likelihood of this happening now, here in North America.  The majority of the cases in North America were reported in the early 2000's and are less likely to occur now.  Most operating theaters today are equipped with technology which alerts the anesthesiologist when a person awakens.  There are also monitors which show in numbers how deeply a patient is sedated.  The most recent case I read about was in Australia in 2008 which, when you think about it, comes as no surprise as the Northern Australian territories--where this happened--are pretty primitive compared to North American standards (don't mean to dis anyone from Australia).  In this case, the woman could not open her eyes or speak but did manage to alert the staff by moving her hand, yet they continued to operate on her regardless--she felt everything.  I'm pretty sure that Brassard has all the latest tech and employs a top anesthetist.

You know what I always wondered? the stuff they give you to knock you out is that the same stuff that killed Michael Jackson? I'm just wondering

It can kill you, if administered wrong.  Firstly, any doctor who would go against his/her ethics by administering someone with this stuff just so they could sleep better has got to have a few nuts loose!  There is a reason why anesthesiologists have to study so long and make six figure incomes, there's definitely more to it than one thinks!

Great vid!  Thanks for posting.  She didn't seem too phased by her episode of waking up.  It is a point that I will bring up with the doctors at Montreal, that I'm afraid of becoming concious during the op.

Here's another link of a girl who had her surgery with McGinn.  She didn't wake up or anything, it is just a really good account of her experienc and healing, etc.  She is quite the character as well.
