One of the problems with proposed fifth revision of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM-5) is that it leaves intersexed people as mentally disordered -- especially if the gender assigned to an intersexed child doesn't match the child's gender identity. Intersex conditions are physical conditions -- Gina Wilson is pointing out in the Sydney Star Observer's Intersex people not 'disordered' that we've essentially labeled the medical doctors who decide what sex an intersex child is as infallible in their decision. The medical doctor who gets the gender of an intersex child wrong is considered so right that an intersexed person who wants to correct the wrong gender assigned to them as an infant that the intersexed person is considered mentally ill.
